2015 Etec stuck in safety mode.

Hey all,

recently just swapped out our stock riser and now that the new one is on, I’m stuck in safety mode. But from what I can see everything is sitting and set where it should be.

I found an an older thread about this but still no luck. In that thread it says:

The cable end hooks into a slot on the thumb lever and if it is not seated properly the sled won't power up because the rev limiter will kick in a hold rev's at idle only. The symptoms you see will be; it will start fine and after warm up will idle properly (1200 RPM) No idiot lights will flash showing it's not in limp mode, the gauge cluster will look normal. When you press the throttle the revs won't increase you will get the sound of more than enough air but not any fuel. This is caused by the throttle sensors not reading zero. Anything holding the throttle from returning to zero will cause this. This is a safety feature built into ETEC's so they won't rev past idle if the sled was started with the throttle pressed or stuck open.

which is exactly what mine is doing, but I’m about 95% sure that when I put back together it is set right. Photos below:

Did you go to a taller or shorter riser?

shorter one. Stock was around 8” new one is 5”

Do have the cable end set in right in the thumb throttle, retaining clip set in, check the cable for any binding. Sounds like something is wrong with the throttle cable.

Sound like the cable is too tight. It isn't going to the stop on the throttle body. When you snap the throttle lever back does it sound like the throttle is slamming closed under the hood? Pull the clutch cover and have a look at the linkage on throttle body and make sure its closing all the way. Probably just needs a little adjustment. Don't go too far or you won't hit full throttle when the lever is hitting your grip.

When I went from the 8" stock riser down to my 4" I had to let the cable loop to the left and down, it would not stay in idle position if I secured it down.

I have to ask, do you have more than one doo sled??
Are you sure you are using the right DESS key

Is it possible that you may have briefly kinked your throttle cable, or maybe exposed a previous kink?

If it kinks and has a small break on the cable housing, the engine can act like that. We’ve had it happen to a few sleds after they cartwheeled. Hard to find/notice at first

I would agree sounds like the throttle is not registering fully closed. You should have a slight amount of slack when you first press the throttle. Confirm your cable routing and that is all proper at the lever end. If you yard your air box out quick it makes it easy to see whats going on and then adjust the cable slightly. Just the cable dont monkey around with any thing else on the throttle bodies.

should be about 1/8" play in throttle. Sounds like you don't have any adjustment is on throttle body.

UPDATE:

TPS Sensor somehow went in this time period. And thats what causing it.
