2014 m8000 clutching

Just picked up my new 2014 m8000 ltd. Reading the owners manual it says that the factory sets up these sleds for 6000 to 9000 ft from the factory.

I am about 250 dressed and ride around 2200 to about 6000ft. I am thinking I could make some significant gains by getting the clutching setup for my elevation and weight alot closer than where it is stock.

Since this is my first cat I have no idea who is the clutching experts are. Can anyone give me some info on whos setup is the best for the M8000.

rk tech i believe was going to put out a kit, speedwerx i had seen had a kit out as well (softer springs or somthing)

Rkt sells a helix. Don't know anyone who's used one but I just got one with my bb from him. I used Mds weights and team secondary which seemed to work good. Both of which are going up for sale

In arctic cats spec sheet that comes with the new sled it shows a completely different helix for all elevations (from 0 to over 9000ft) Its a split angle helix with a cat part number!!!!) Yet the one that comes in the mountain sled is a single angle 36degree one!?! Doesnt make sense!

hey so i did some searching as to why it says that, i cant find much although i did find a 2012 spec sheet i will paste below and from my reading this morning it looks like it was causing people more hit (slippage) of the belt but they were also changing the secondary spring to the orange spring.
most that boondock/ride higher eleveations have left the 36 in it.

Spec for 12' Proclimb M800

Primary Clutch
Spring : Yellow/White (122/285) # 0646-229
Cam Arm : 75gr (0-3000ft) # 0746-672
73gr (3000-6000ft) # 0746-716
70gr (6000-9000ft) # 0746-671 *Stock Cat presetting
67gr (over 9000ft) # 0746-695

Secondary
Spring : Blue (202/284) # 0648-813
Helix : 42°/40° (0-3000ft) # 0748-747
36° (over 3000ft) # 0748-753

I ran a 20t top gear and Speedwerx H5 white 125/340 spring in the primary. It pulls a lot harder to a consistent 8050 RPM, but the engagement was too high for my liking at 4200rpm.

A Polaris black 100/340 (pn: 7043121) will lower engagement to 3400RPM - this is the spring MDS is using with their weight kits.

A good source for clutching options is Eric at Racin'Station in the US. I wish there was a Canadian source for good/tested Proclimb kits.

I'm running a AC gold spring (75-275) with 67gr weights and team tied. Engages 3200 and pulls hard to 8200 all day long - lots of fun.

Hey guys, couple questions for all you tuners out there. Im running a new sled this year, (M8000) and I like everyone else am very curious about clutch setups. I know from experience that the old M series cats liked 42/40 or 44/40 helixes and that a turbo M8 would benefit from a 40/44. Now ive heard that the new proclimb secondarys work differently. Ive been told that they work in reverse and that a stock M8 would benefit from a 36/40 helix. To me that sounds backwards... can anyone confirm this? Again that was a stock 2014 M8000 running a 36/40. Thanks for your help.

The stock helix that came in my 2014 m8000 is a straight 36degree . Not a 36/40. Like I said above, in the spec sheet that comes with the sled they show a whole different helix (a split angle) for elevations from 0 - over 9000 ft. Not sure why THAT helix wouldnt come in the sled from the factory.

You have the right helix. All M's get the stock 36 from factory.It has been that way since 05 with the M7.

The XF will get the lower elevation 40/36 helix and different gearing. If you want the lower elevation setup your dealer might swap it out for you for free. But if you ride the mountains you will not want that setup. My stock 36 works great Golden/Revy riding and the cocassional rides around home just fine.

Every kit I have investigated suggest a straight degree as best for the Proclimb, unless you are adding more HP.

As stated before a very popular setup is adjustable MDS weights ($240) and the Polaris black primary spring (100/340). I will be running the Polaris black with stock weights and 2014 secondary for this season. If I get a Jaws pipe setup I will be upgrading with a kit from RacinStation on Snowest.

MMSports also have a kit he sells for $140 using stock weights modified slightly.

I dunno about you guys but I feel with the gearing changes on these sleds, the clutch setups will be different this year... wait till about mid season to hear about the good clutching setups for the 14's!

Thanks Geordiep. I bought a set of adj. cutler weights from my dealer.(he recommended them). I think i will do what bopper said above and just leave it stock for a while to see how it works before I even put them in. Will try the polaris black spring later on too.
