Hey Guys, down here in Texas and there are some very cool new things. Will be posting it all here...love to hear what people want. The one thing I ask all sledders to do is don't tell BRP Ski Doo the solution, tell them what your sled won't do, if it does not do what you want it to...then they will figure out how to fix that...since 2009-2012 amny riders were saying that they could not side hill easy....many people said to make the track 15 inches again and it will side hill like the rest...they don't like to hear the solution as if they listened to those riders we would have a 15 inch track, they didn't and developed flex edge and t-motion, now it would be hard to argue that the xm is hard to sidehill, it is actually easier than any other sled and it is still a 16 inch track!...this is how engineers love to work, find out what riders need then try to make it happen! cheers dave

How about I say what I want it to doo...

I want a Summit that will pop up and get ontop of the snow like a Pro RMK. The RMK even with its 15" wide track is more effective because the suspension doesn't collaspe like the Doo.

I want a Summit that can hold a line like a Pro RMK and not get kicked out and dive downhill leaving me in bad situations.

The etec even making more power doesn't do as well as the lighter, lower powered RMK. Lighter isn't better but some of the RMK components like the clutching make it a more effective sled.

That is my three biggest complaints. Dave, make it happen.

Maybe I will just be on a Polaris for next winter. Hate that idea but more and more I am seeing more pros (no pun intended) than cons to a RMK.

No secret more subtle changes to the XM platform for 2014 to improve it even more. I wouldn't give up on the Doo quite yet Dan. This whole open forum deal really open's ones eyes to how every rider out there is looking for something different to make there riding experience more fine tuned to there liking. We have Cat guys wanting to switch to Doo's and Poo's. We have Poo guys likeing the new XM and others not. Now we have a noted Doo rider thinking of switching to Poo. Its hard for any one manufacturer to build the perfect sled for all types of riders. Thats what makes this sport what it is with a healthy mix of different views and opinions.

The XM's are great sleds but they need a couple things.

1- They should have an option for the KYB40's on the 163in summitX
2- They need another 100hp to be a true go any where deep pow machine...IMO

Factory TSS turboed 800etec and you'd have a winner.

One of my pet peaves with the Doo has been the "soft" rear suspension calibration and suspension location since 2008. Yes they improved since 2010 but not enough for my liking. just the fact that the rear skid fully collapses unloading off a trailer is an irritant to me. HD springs are a must for anyone over 170 lbs in my opinion and even lighter guys are running the stock springs at a high preload setting. BRP......make it happen please.

haha maybe it's the pain killers talking...

But I do get to compare sleds side by side throughout the winter. I also have been able to see a sled make a better rider of someone and its easy to see how it has.

I agree no one sled will appeal to every rider, but for so long we have used the leverage that the 16" wie track provides more floatation, thus making a same length track better. The floatation arguement I believe is real, but the design of Doo's skid doesn't make it as effective.

The inferior Polaris with its 15" wide track, no front cooler, less HP and taller gearing shouldn't be half the sled the XM is, but it works well.

If I could get over the wonky steering in one day I would have likely committed to switched already. When they release the boosted option tonight it still won't be enough to say the XM is forsure my next sled as I don't believe the lack of HP is the issue.

Why is Ski-Doo still using a torsion spring on the rear skid? Couldn't they help to firm up the rear, and drop a bunch of weight all in one shot by switching to a coil over?

I like your thinking Wilks. Not sure why we haven't seen that come to fruition?

Anyone heard of anyone swapping out the T-motion skid on the XM to a coupled skid? Is that even possible on the XM, and is it harder to pull over? Watching videos of the Doos, they do a hell of a lot of wheelies.

Baker swapped out the t-mo to his skid.

He's done a few guys that went to 163 and 174 with 3 inch tracks. He is testing on a new coupled tippable rear skid. I believe he has 2 or 3 on the snow right now. If it works then that will be the hot set up.

Id have to say a better ride with the torsion springs because of the better spring rates.
There is one thing about the xm I can say compared to the other brands I rode, the xm does everything well, other brands do things better than the xm, but at what cost, yah never get something for nothing.
If a person wants to get rid of the torsion springs on the xm skid to make it lighter and make the snowmobility better due to better geometry, are yah willing to sacrifice the smoother ride that the xm gives you over the other brands.
Has anyone compared the ride quality of a pro to a xm on a rough trail? I have.
Yes these are mtn sleds but after a long day on the hill, a smooth riding sled on a rough 30km trail is a huge plus to me and maybe others. Ive done aftermarket suspensions and they did make the sled better on the hill but gained a harsh ride on the trail.

There are things about the pro I like and dislike, just like my xm, but I chose to stick with skidoo because it works for me.

Fair enough, but you can swap out springs for a dual or triple rate spring to improve ride quality. Great 300$ mod.

Great point! But it's extra money spent to improve a sled to personalize it. Same as clutching some are happy with the stock setup others are not and I was not.
I'd still like to see doos removable floating qrs kit as a standard from the factory on the summit, and I'm not sure why they don't. Production cost maybe?
Out of the box comparisons shows the consumer the pros and cons of all brands. The manufacturer has to decide what is the best base line product for everyone.
IMO, I believe there is a couple of improvements that skidoo could do and all doo customers would benefit from with no negative performance issues is a lightweight EPA compliant can for the summits, if aftermarket can supply EPA compliant cans and so can Polaris, why can't doo?
belt drive to replace the drive chain would be a huge improvement as well.
I've never noticed a issue with my sled popping out of the snow mine seems to come up quick, but I'm not a heavy person I'm 175 lb so the stock suspension works for me.

Do you know how much it affected the ability to pull it over? The XM pulls overs real easy and smooth, just wondering how much of that is attributed to T-motion.

As Snopro said it's quite substantial. I've got a Baker Skid on my 163x and although it keeps the front end down amazing, the maneuverability has changed drastically. I rode my sled with a stock 163x last weekend and couldn't believe the difference. I will be looking into one of baker's new bendy arms this summer.

The newer Doo's come up better, the XM better than the XP did, but still not as good as a RMK. When the sled is popping up ontop of the snow better from a standstill, it is doing the same thing while in motion. The geometry allows it to do so.

I am quite a bit lighter than you as well.

Also, having short legs I notice the tunnel width of the Doo over the Poo the more I ride them. I can grab the RMK tunnel like a dirt bike. Taller people likely won't notice much of a difference.
