2014 chev 5.3 vs 6.2

I have a 2010 Chevy LT 1500 4wd with a 6.2L 6sp. It has to be the best truck I ever had. It pulls my 24.5ft Cougar trailer 9300lbs loaded and I get 19L per 100km. That's not to bad. Most people use reg fuel, I burn prem or propane I have dual fuel. At our local drag strip the same truck ran 14.6 in a quarter mile. Try that with a Dodge hemi or your EB Ford. I do get 11.9L per 100km empty on the hiway and it pulls like a bandit.

19L/100km towing 9300lbs? Where? On the flats with a tailwind?

Not sure about 9300 lbs but 6000 lbs my 2013 1/2 ton 6.2 did 19.3 .
Same boat pulling with 2012 Duramax is 19.6
6.2 is the better motor between the 5.3 and 6.2 . IMO

You're talking about 30% less weight and a boat will cut the air a lot better than a big square travel trailer.

Put mine to the test yesterday. Hauled 6200lbs of copper on a 20' flat bed almost 200k. Burnt half a tank but handled it really well.

I had a 2012 6.0L Silverado, it was brutal on fuel and a toad. Took it back to dealer and upgraded to a 2014 5.3L Silverado with the MAX Trailering package. The truck is amazing. I would highly recommend this truck over a 6.0L. As for the 6.2L it was an option but my towing capacity is 11500lbs and the 6.2L went up another 300lbs. I've pulled a skid steer and holiday trailer on highway and in city and this truck performs very well. The only mod i did was added airbags and wireless compressor.

Don't get me wrong, the diesel is a whole different animal and I have one of those as well and it works very well too.

Agreed! have been running GM diesels since 02, picked up a 08 Denali in 2010, have used it to tow an enclosed car hauler 27' with a car and with 4 sleds. Traveled with friends using diesels and very little difference in fuel milage and a bit of an edge to the 6.2. Plus at times gas was .20/ litre cheaper it was definitely cheaper to run. Pulling on hills or flats with the diesels is the same. The 6 speed hunts a lot when pulling but my GM mechanic says that's the way it works and is a bullet proof transmission. Empty on the highway in summer it gets 745 km to the tank. Very impressed with the truck all around. And for the price diff you can buy a lot of gas. I do still have a GM dually duramax for the real heavy loads.

Exactly the same but a 2012 3500 duramax sitting In shop and using my 1/2 ton.
1/2 ton is a 2014 6.2 and it's better on fuel than the 2013 6.2 I had.
Power and torque is I bit better also .
Great motor the 6.2 as is the duramax.
3500 is for hauling sleds and pulling bigger loads as a crew long box .

Life time fuel mileage in 20,200 KM on my 1 year old 1Lt 14 Crew 1500 5.3 3.42 is 17.9l/100kms on DIC.Not great but managable.I tow 3 different trailers.In town pulling my small single axle work traler I get about 420kms to a tank usually about 80ish litres of fuel.My friens has identicle 2LT truck he does not tow and does more hwy his life time on DIC in 18,00km is 14.9l/100kms.Towing really kills fuel economy.I do miss my 2011 Duramax but the diesel fuel costs are a rip.

Unless you tow a lot or really big loads that 6.2 with a max tow package is a great option throw on airbags so you aren't squatted and away ya go. I don't get the mpg you guys are saying but I also have rolling hills and a heavy foot!!
If you want a smooth shifting six speed. Blackbearperformance.com I have the efi live auto cal. Did a record of driving sent file. He sends back with program. Way way better shifts

Just to add my observations, the new 6.2 (and even the 5.3) in 2014 are way ahead of the previous years with direct injection. The 6.2 is a beast and it gets pretty decent economy. The 5.3 is definitely better than the last one and gets surprising economy. Of course, once you hook onto a trailer, they will burn fuel. But I can see them both doing a much better job than the last generation of engines.

Biggest thing to watch is what gears it's got in it with either engine. If I could get one with 4.10's it would have them but 3.23, 3.42 or 3.73 is all your options are
