Rode my buddies cat a few days ago and i am wondering if folks r changing clutching or something to bring up the low end torque/snap? Hard sled to keep on a side hill and controlled descents just due to the low end delay I found. Sled would climb fine but slow technical riding was difficult IMO. It's a 163" le. Just looking for some real input so the sled will be easier to maneuver. Thanks

That sounds a little weird I have no problem with low end snap and I still have stock clutching.

Maybe it's just learning curve of the sled. Only rode it for half hour or so.
(Used to a different brand) ?

What are you used to riding? Bc if it is a newer doo or polaris then yes it's going to feel bottom end boggy. Im on a 2013 153" LE i love the machine but I do know what your talking about with the bottom end bog/missing snap. My 2010 m8 had the same problem. Some sleds seem worse than others (I frequently ride with other 2012/2013 cats) and I know I find mine to be one of the worst ones for it. I'm trying to find the solution now myself. When your heavy into the throttle / into your rpms it pulls like a MF, its unreal the upper range power and go on the sled. But bottom end it could use some adjustments.

TEAM secondary, Arctic Green primary spring and lighten weights, Engages @ 3700rpm and pulls hard all the way through.
Some of the problems with a low end boggy feeling is from the oil pump sticking at about 1/4 throttle position, especially on off throttle downhills when you get back into the gas it feels very dead until it clears itself.

thanks krust! I've heard the TEAM secondary carries quite the price and mixed reviews on if it works or not so been hesitant to purchase..but maybe combining it with the spring/weights combo will make the difference. I will def look into this further :)

Mine's geared down to a 19 at the moment. Was expecting it to make big changes to bottom end but didn't help the bog issue for sure.

How do you fix the oil pump to not do this ?

i dont think id play with the oil pump much.... this may have something to do with why our 800's are bulletproof

Ya dont think id go there. Cat over-injects oil but bopper's right. engines seems the most bulletproof.

One trick to do to reduce the loading up while riding is simply blip the throttle. So say if I'm going down hill and I want to do a rentry or climb another hill after coming down, I will blip my throttle a few times while going down to clear it up.

There are a couple of ways to stop the oil pump from sticking, maybe more , all are a pain in the ass!! You can take the return spring and wind it around 1 more time. You can take a small tie wrap or O-ring and place it over the tabs to force it to return - the problem with this method is if the oil pump seizes hard it will hold the throttle open too....not good! Throttle lever switch should cut the ignition if this happens but not fool proof. This has been a problem since the first lay down engines and they haven't fixed it yet so don't count on Cat to come up with a better plan. If your pump is hanging up bad you can get a new one on warranty but it may have the same problem

Its not that bad. It just seems to load up a bit when off the throttle. Blipping the throttle does help. After it clears itself out it pulls really good so I don't think ill touch it.
