2012 GMC or Chev 6.0l Question

Just looking for some feed back on the 2011 or 2012 GM or Chev 6.0L 2500HD trucks for fuel mileage and towing likes and dislikes. Looking at moving on from a diesel pick-up.

I have an 08. 6.0L. 4:10 gears. Tows pretty good, but hard on fuel. I put bigger tires on mine 265 75 16 and millage went to chit. 15 mpg or so depends on speed of course About 10 pulling 5000lb trailer through the mountains or on the flats. Head wind will be way worse Hope this helps

Very hard on fuel......... If that's not an issue for you, then they have decent power for pulling..... We service a fleet of them, and no abnormal problems with them

I have seen an 08 6.0L with the newer 6 speed get stupid good mileage, towing moderate sized trailers with an off the shelf tuner.

I also recently went to Golden and back with two chev's, both with decks and two sleds, same speed, one with the older 4 speed and the other new with the 6 speed. The newer 6.0L used half the fuel.

You give up some torque with the gaser, but so far I am quite impressed. So i am not sure what the bench mark is to say they are hard on gas.

I'm running an 07 2500 with the 6.0L w/6 speed auto. Edmonton to Hinton with a 2 place open trailer over 3/4 tank of fuel. Loaded, empty, uphill or downhill its a pig on fuel. Tons of power for a gasser but fawk me its a pig on fuel.

Mine wasnt bad on gas with stock tires,,but as soon as the tires got bigger and the deck went on,,holy cow,,,got way worse...And it has gibson exhaust,k&N intake ,and a bully dog programmer..Lots of jam..but terrible on gas.

I'm finding it hard to justify the cost of diesel truck for every day runner. Don't get me wrong i've had three of these things and loved everyone of them. Power is great and all that but 5 to 6 trips year camping and pulling the boat for day trips just doesn't seem right anymore. Only thing is my trailer weights in at Dry weight: 8030 lbs, carrying capacity: 2670 lbs and i think the 6.0l come in at 9200 gvw.

I went from a 07 duramax to a 02 1500hd with a 6.0. Mileage is almost on par if not better and I pocketed a ton of cash as this truck was 1/3 the value of the other. Win win. Still run a deck and not underpowered

Comparing the 02 6.0L to a newer truck isn't near the same. An 07 Duramax should deffinetly be getting better highway mileage than a 02 6.0.

The newer 6.0L also has the lean cylinder option, or whatever they call it when it drops fuel to a few cylinders when at highway speeds. Around town, running anything bigger than 265's into the throttle, stop and go, its going to suck on fuel.

For an everyday driver, it would be tough not to consider a new gaser. I was all set on picking up a new diesel this winter, now I am holding off as these gasers are deffinetly improved. With your trailer, I don't know what exactly you are concerned with? The GVW, the 2500HD gas and diesel is the same as far as I know, unless its changed on the new ones. Like you said, 5-6 trips a year for your trailer.

Everyone loves to have more power and torque but sometimes people just can justify it.

I am running a 10 GMC 6.0 crew and with 92000 km its been a great truck but hard on fuel. I have the 3.73 gears and unloaded, no wind and doing 100-110 km/h i have seen 17 mpg. Regular driving is 15mpg. i tow a 24' bumper pull holiday trailer that i think is around 4500-4700 lbs dry, not sure what i weights loaded up but the truck pulls it really good other than the fuel miliage. I will get 300-350 km to 85-90 liters. Over all its a good truck but it pisses me off that i am getting the same mpg's as my 2004 GMC 6.0 and this one has a 6 speed transmision. I think there is a lot of potential in that motor to make good power and be better on fuel. The motor definatly runs rich as there is a black ring around the outlet of the tail pipe which was the same as my 04.

Its funny just talked to the dealer and they said there getting flood of guys wanting to go back to gassers.

On my '04 I get about 15-17 mpg empty. Saw just over 18 once on a trip to Cowtown. With two sleds on the deck it probably drops to around 13 or so... haven't actually calculated it. I'm running a K&N intake and DB series exhaust. I wish there were programmers available that one could drop fuel out of rpm ranges as it's obvious these trucks run filthy rich basically throughout the rpm range.

Should is the key word. I expected a lot better. I don't miss that truck one bit.

I have a 2010 Chev 1500 with a 6.2l with the 6 speed auto tranny. I pull a 24ft Cougar trailer that weights 9300lbs loaded. I will get 14.4mpg @ 110kmh. The truck just works. I did have to respring the rear and leveling kit in the front in order to haul the trailer. Why drive a 2500 when a 1500 will work. My truck also runs propane, Empty it will run 23mpg loaded 14.4mpg.

i drive an 08 6.0 liter 2500 for work with about 500-700 lbs of tools on it and i can go 650kms (about 130 liters of gas so 20 L/100km) about 6000 lbs, the tranny shifts constantly when you want to cruise and when you want it to shift down it doesnt and you have to do it manualy... thank god i dont pay for the fuel for this truck.

however i can go 400kms (about 80 liters of diesel so 20 L/100km) with my 06 duramax with a lift and 285 tires pulling a 30 ft trailer and 2 quads on the back of the truck. truck+trailer total weight 16000 ish pounds. my truck empty can go 700kms on 80 liters 11.43 L/100km so depending on how much you drive you will save money in the long run with a diesel over the 6.0 liter

plus diesel has come down a lot, some places ive seen it on par with gas. high diesel prices are always temporary

for whats it worth, i am running a 07 1500 6.0L with the 4 speed in it and 4.10 gears. To edmonton at 120km.hr i get around 18mpg, at 110ish i get 20mpg. Pulled a bobcat out to golden this summer and was getting around 12/13mpg. everything weighted in at around 7000lbs.
