Hi all,Thinking of trading my 08 Sierra Denali for a 09 Dodge 3500 cummins. Was wondering if any of you dodge guys out there have any warnings about the 09 or the 6.7 cummins. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for on the 09. Thanks.

Haha no didn't fall on my head. I need to get back into a diesel because I will be using it as a work truck and have to haul loads. Found a pretty good deal on a dodge so am considering the trade. I know I will most likely miss the denali but will enjoy the diesel. Just looking for warnings about the 09 dodge.

Emissions equipment is junk, mileage ain't great, transmission ain't great, ride ain't great especially if you're coming from a half ton chev, and interior ain't great. Believe it or not this is coming from a Dodge guy.

Most are very happy with them..... Much better than the ford, and about equal with the chevs...... Very few engine problems with the cummins......... Trans works good, diffs are good, ball joints will be due after about 130000km(and possibly hub/bearings too), and better than average brakes. Ride is not as soft as the chevies, but better than the fords. Steering is okay.

I like my 2011 :)

I have a 2008 6.7. on my 4th transmission, and just blew the Head gasket at 80000km. mind you these things happened because of the mods I did. great truck in stock form, but much better when you delete the emissions. after spending the week with my buddies 6.7 ford and driving my 04.5 duramax, the dodge is not hard on fuel.

I just bought at 2010 3500 diesel and like it so far. Did not think I would get another after the issues with my 2008 dodge 1/2t. The new body style is alot better then the old. If the 09 you are looking at is the old style which I think it is then get a newer one unless it is a smoking deal. Big difference in handling and interior.

Yeah, I want the new body style for sure but the 09 I am looking at is i pretty good deal. It is on one of my really good friends used car lots so I can get it for dirt cheap. I just can't make up my mind....

I have a 08 3500. Love it. The meaga cab is my second home. Going from a Denali you are going back 30 years in the comfort zone... Yes a 2008 dodge truck you have to turn the lights on/ off manually!! I bought mine in kelowna. I think it was 1/2 way home before I realized the lights had to be turned on manually. My 1998 grand prix had auto day/ night lights. I'm sure it was out before that too. I think the newer trucks are getting with the program. But I miss my GMC comforts. But I still love my truck beside that little stuff. If I had tons O $$$$ I'd buy the Denali 3500 in a heartbeat! But that said, once I long box my mega cab it will be the perfect camping / sledding truck IMO!

Had an 08 Mega cab and loved it. Tranny worked awesome and I hauled a 44' fifth wheel that weighed 19000lbs loaded and it had no problem. I had 115000 on it when I sold it and had no problems with it at all. I now have a 2010 and it rides WAY better than the 08 and a lot nicer all around. Airconditioned seats, heated steering wheel and a hard drive stereo etc are nice options. I just did the DPF and EGR delete with the Mini Max but haven't towed anything yet. I had a Duramax for a while and didn't like it at all. Cummins all the way, for this guy!

As long as emissions are gone, they are pretty much as reliable as the 5.9 in stock form. But for modding, they had a lot weaker headgasket. A simple programmer won't do it, but major mods like injectors, turbo, etc require work before a 5.9 will.

With emissions intact will have a lot of stupid small issues like 02 sensors, and in the long run they are bad for the engine. But deleted or stock, without a good programmer to delete codes, get use to the CEL being on. Even the 2011's have issues with 02 sensors and plugging up if not on the highway enough.

But be warned, if any issues after deleting, be prepared to pay for them. Even if you put it back to stock, any dealer with half a brain can tell the truck was deleted and you will not have any warranty. Can be a big risk.
