So, due to some financial issues, my budget for a new sled has dropped once again. (Started at around $10,000, dropped to $8,000, and has now dropped to more like $5500). I found what appears to be a really good deal on a 2006 RMK. I've heard people complaining about the 755's and that because they were only made one year it shows evidence they were an awful engine, but are they really that bad? The one I found is $4500 and only has 433 km's on it! The only issue I can seem to find with these is that they are a bit heavy, vibrate, and to make sure they are warmed up before riding them, but not too warm. I'd still imagine that it'd have to be substantially better in almost every way than the 2001 Arctic Cat Mountain Cat 1000 that I currently have (other than straight line performance anyways). So would it be okay or should I avoid the 755's? 2007 rmk 700 | snowmobiles | Edmonton | Kijiji

With a budget of $5500 I would just go for the best sled possible and forget about saving a few bucks. You should be able to get a great off season deal on a 2009+ summit 800 xp or a 08+ arctic cat m8 and they are much better sleds....go for gold buddy

Keep lookin there are some 2009 m1000 for 4500 that have all the right mods, after that a 2009 summit or m8 won't be far off your budget.

What are considered the "right" mods for an M1000? And overall how are these sleds? Maneuverability, reliability, etc.?

Solid for sure, keep in mind the '10 Cat M8 motors received a boost in power. They have 20 more HP than it predecessor. I sold my '11 M8 with 3000 hard miles and buddy said he logged another 1000 this winter pushing it to 4000 and it still runs strong on all stock parts.

Oh, I was unaware of that. So the 2010 M8 must have close to the same horsepower as an M1000 then? Just not as much torque, I'd imagine?

I have had both m8 and currently still have my 09 1000. No comparison when it comes to torque and power. Handling is the same and I have never noticed the weight difference.

If you do a lot of mountain riding, stay away from the HCR. You will not like it in the hills, but for a ditch banger. It's really hard to beat

Yeah, I've heard that they trench pretty badly. I think a Sno Pro would be my first choice.

I have a 10 Dragon 155, and love it. I would like to upgrade to a 12 or 13 Pro RMK. If you watch....... there is the odd one that goes for 7500 to 8000. I know its higher than your budget, but is a good deal for a good sled. The older m1000's were incredible, I doubt you could go wrong with any of them. Just need to keep up on the maintence (sp*) of the Diamond Drive.

What I really want is a 2015 Pro RMK 600 (I know as I'm looking at 1000's the want for a 600 might seem odd, but something about the 600 really appeals to me). My friend has a 2014 800 Pro RMK 155 and it is amazing. I've ridden it a couple times and everything about it is so precise. Although, I do have to say that I think with a 600 or an 800 I would definitely miss the pull of the 1000. Like his Pro doesn't have near the power of my '01 Mountain Cat 1000. My favourite sled ever was still my 2006 Summit 1000 151". Top end, the Mountain Cat would've destroyed it, but the low end torque of the big bore twins is insane.

Keep me in mind for fall time as I have a 2012 pro 600 ES rmk 155 that I bought for the wife and daughter and it is not getting used and I might sell it in the fall. I think there is 600 miles. I have driven it twice and what a fun sled, as much bottom end as the pro 800 but looses it on top end. Great sled though!

All The advise you have been given is sound some other nice sleds are the 2007 and up polaris dragon's which might even be lower in price than the sleds suggested. The cat 800 is a very good motor as well

I would hold out to see what the 2016 brings..... I don't know how you can go, from a 1000 to a 600 :confused: I think 800 is the magic number from any and ALL manufacturers

If he's looking at a Pro the 600's aren't all that bad, they make decent power for a 6, seem to be way more reliable than an 8, and most of the used one's were ridden by people that didn't beat the living sh!t out of them (these people bought 800's). Dad has a 2014 600 Pro and it surprised me, the low end snap is impressive and they still pull fairly hard up top, he goes a lot of the places I go on my turbo just has to pick an easier line, not to mention the fuel economy is great I put in 20L before he even thinks about pouring in his can. I agree going from a 1000 to 600 would be a big jump, but the newer lighter more nimble sled would make it easier.
