Holy f^(K - nothing like having to explain it 5 times to ya huh? It's called overboring your stock cylinders, not a Big Bore. And it's not a big deal to overbore. Learn the terminology. Let's move on shall we?

Why would you overbore?

sounds like a good mod :) how much would a used set of jugs and what not be? could I use the same carbs? airbox? clutching?

I used the same carbs and airbox but I had to change to heavier clutch weights. Not sure what the parts will cost these days. I may have a 700 cylinder...not sure if I have two though.

Yes, both engines used the Keihin 39mm D slides and airbox. Jetting will be slightly different. Clutching is close but you may need to change weights and helix. I would ride it first though. You will however have to get a CDI from a 700 as they had quite a bit of difference in the advance curve.

This conversation is obviously over your head - I'm not going to waste my time explaining it to you. Maybe if the cylinders are worn, or out of round, etc etc. Unless you know of a place where a guy can get some oval shaped pistons....:rolleyes:

Maybe you should read some of the responses above where they state that you will need heavier clutch weights, a new CDI, etc. Plus the cost of a set of cylinders. I don't think moving to a 700 is going to be cheaper than overboring if Andre needs to, once he buys all the associated parts. Like I said - you obviously don't have a clue about this, so feel free to zip your lip at anytime.

Andre take the top end off and look at the jugs first before you get carried away. I would almost be willing to bet that you can still see the crosshatch marks on the cylinder walls. I could still see them all the way up and down on ours when I rebuilt them at 7500 miles. That nicasil coating is tough. You're probably only looking at new pistons and rings and gaskets at this point unless of course you want to turn it into a 700.

What size pistons would you recommend for this over bore?

It depends on what you want out of your sled. If I were you I would just put the stock pistons in your sled. I tried all kinds of different engine combinations and had some fun but in the end my machine was outdated. I found a newer mod sled for WAY less than I had into my 98 RMK and it blew my mod 98 away. They are a great reliable sled that would be worth keeping either to ride or as a backup if you found a newer more powerful sled to ride.

So how much money do you have to spend on this thing Andre???

well my limit is about $700 ish. Im considering selling my 98 rmk for a DOO. I could probly sell my sled for 2500-2800 and I could buy a summmit for like $3000. I could put that $700 towards a better, lighter sled.

You may not get that much if the compression is low on one cylinder! So if thats the route you want to go you may want to at least fix the one side. What Summit are you now looking at?

im going to put some new rings on the one side as well as new gaskets. Im not sure what I want in motor size yet but I like the zx chassis and the rev chassis. my buddie has a 2000 summit 600 that has some mods. its got 8" bar risers and it feels like your riding a bmx bike. I love that sled and im hoping to find somthing like that.
