I have a 2015 174 T3 and a 850 165 both are bone stock. I have been riding the 850 and I am really enjoying it. I rode with my son's for four days in Revy, one on my 174 and I will say conclusively that the 174 has the upper hand in the extreme deep snow that is in Revy right now. Makes me think your 174 may not be working quite right.

These were my findings as well when we were in revy at Xmas.

I never have checked gear ratio but my 174 works pretty good - never have come across a 163 that could outclimb it - and this year installed clutching for better low end pull / holds rpm better and also to help braking

Kinda weird that a clutch kit provider didn't ask for what gearing you have, specially if the sled had a possibility of 2 gear ratios from factory.

I had Darrell Baker install his kit on my 174 and it's like a new sled. He said gearing one tooth down may help as well so I don't think that they came out with two gear ratios.Unless 2015 and 2016 are different.

From what I can tell guys the 2 gear ratios is based on the sea level kit and the high altitude kit specs. This is normal with a lot of models whether it be mountain designated or flat land models. It has been this way forever. If you have the wrong gear ratio in your chaincase from new and it was sold to Western Canada then the warranty dept should change that out for you free of charge.

Question is whats the ratio supposed to be? If the 174 shows 19/49 on paper and some have (19/51 dunno just guessing) what it actually supposed to be?? Both are good ratios and with the clutching im running the 19/49 works very well not sure why doo didnt go with 20/51, but the 51 bottom has me curious. 175 bucks for the T3 51t is steep.

Brp has always messed up the delivered gear ratios, compared to whats on paper. Same goes with the 850.

I thought most just change top gear as they are cheaper, so I think if it came with 19/49 I would go 20/49. That's what I think?

I never chkd ratio - wasnt thinking there was different ratios for different elevations - i assumed joey knew gear ratio based on my description of where i rode and ud think when u get a 174 thered b a standard gear ratio for this sled - guess i was wrong
