Mine would always plug off in the deep stuff, so I cut it out completely, and stuck in the 09 version

Yes upgrading to the 09 version is a good idea because the snow doesn't stick too it. You can get the 09 version from any ski-doo dealer.

thanx for the info. i already picked up a replacement stock filter, but im sure they will take it back and swap for the 09 version. just to be clear, the 09 is the same shape, fits the 08 air box, it just isnt the same weak piece of s@!#$%$.!!!!!!! thanx again.

The first thing I did to my sled was get rid of that 09 Foam and replace it with the 08screen.

The Foam does not seal and if you are in a lot of fresh on a cold day the foam will freeze up and leave lots of room for powder to pass by. We were actually chipping ice out of our airboxes due to these.

I would replace it with the screen

I believe both the '08 screen and the '09 tampon do not perform well. My buddies '08 will build up on big pwoder days and my '09 as mentioned doesn't always fit well and a few times I have had ice building up around the intakes, not cool!

Best thing I found with the '09 is to stick it in behind the stopper but thats not perfect either. I have recently added velcro to the tampon screen and will see if that works.

The only other thing I think may help the '08 riders is to put one of those snow deflectors on to stop it from building up.

Silly thing is, BRP already made a fix for all of this...the Cold Air Induction kit, but for noise compliance its considered for race applications.

terroy on here built something simular.

i actually was curious how the foam would seal but at the same time i am worried about damaging the thin screen. i think i will stick with the screen and just pay closer attention to where i put my hands to push the sled right side up!!! i also have seen some gaurds that may help to protect it but may also restrict flow..in the off season timbersled fresh air intake kit!!!???

Thats exactly what we did. We kept getting snow in behind the "Wart/Tampon" Switched to the 08 and added cold air intake.

my adice would be to switch to the 08 screen and a slp cold air kit. Got one on my 860 and works great, only have issues on mega powder days and really at the end of the day is it really an issue if you only catch 2 or 3 of these a year. the 08 screen i find works better just for the fact you can pick out the ice build up and then it is good to go again. The 09 seems to leave alot moisture trapped in the screen and foam.

is the timbersled kit a straight forward install, or is there some hacking and slashing involved..other than the screen on the panel..also, where does the sensor mount?? what about support for the carbs?? had k&n on my 02 and found without support it was hard on the intake/reed boot. thnx for the help so far guys..much appreciated.

you cut out one hole by left knee.Everything works awesome in the kit.Just have to undo all panels, console etc,to wedge out the air boxes. Then slip on filters, rivit sensor to brace/cover.Put headlight mount in.Tighten everything up.Drinkbeer............................

I have an 08 800xp and my screen had a rip in it too. When I went to my dealer I asked about getting the 09 one and they told me to stick with the 08 screen, and that other customers mentioned some of the issues reported here about the 09 foam version as well. So I went with the original and I just keep my eye on it.

i am going to stick with the 08 screen for now, but will upgrade to a cold air intake..probably the timbersled kit.the stock filter does its job, its just one of those things you have to keep an eye on..watch where you put your hands when getting unstuck!!!
