make sure your choke is properly adjusted if the cable stretch even just slightly it will make life miserable specially on cold start

Your slide height at zero throttle position can hamper this along with a float setting as well. But definitely check compression, my 07 was low and was getting hard to start but also had poor carb set up as well

okay, it's jetted for elevation, apparently. would that affect it? Thanks for the responses.

jetting on that machine is the same whatever elevation because of something called dpm 04-05 revs were bad for flaking the piston rings and you would lose compression an easy way to tell is if it stalls every time you put it into reverse you know you got low compression

I would do a compression check.I have an 04 turbo low compression head only 120 psi and it starts fine 3-4 pulls in cold weather on VP 111.Carb adjustments are very important as stated above. Also belt deflection to tight and it will drag down the primary and it will have a hard time going into reverse.

I ran one tank of gas through it, i'm not sure what it was runnin on but i put premium no ethanol and it seems to start a lot better and run way smoother. so maybe it was just crappy gas? Now it 3 pulls max and it fires. Thanks fo rthe responses.

talked to a mechanic, checked the top of the plugs, burnt plastic residue on top... plug wires are done and the choke had a lot of slack in the line even just cleaning off the plugs made it better guess i figured out the problem for now.
