Took a run over middle kootenay today. The gate is open. Made a run out to butts cabin. Snow is pretty sketchy through the pass, but gets nice toward the flathead. Good enough for trail riding, but we need some snow.
If your ride an XP, the plate fits under the seat with the manual. It's not really legal, but I have not heard anyone get a ticket yet. As long as you have your paper work with you, you should be just fine.
Make sure your riding buddies know how to use their avy gear.
On a steep hill, throw your spare belt over a ski.
Sleds don't float. (Everyone knows this, but it's surprising how cold it is.)
When cruising down a trail, remember someone might be coming toward you.
Don't let anyone pressure you...
Ok, here's a question no one has asked yet. How much weight did you gain over the summer? Just trying to cover all the bases. BTW, I'm over 330, and my stock rails have not bent yet.
I know there's a trail and if you look on google it goes over the ridge. So theoretically you can make it. I don't see it happening. We've also come in from the back of that ridge, and it is overgrown quite bad. Maybe if we get tons of snow....
As for the amazing hillclimb you want to try...
From the rainy ridge trail we get into 2 lakes (the second one being one of those secrets spots and only if conditions are just right), and from middle kootenay we get into two other lakes. We've never connected the two. Have you?
Hey Sledqueen, the trail your asking about does not continue to Waterton. It dead ends in another bowl. It's very tuff to get into, and not used much anymore. 20 years ago was a lot easier. Very very few people know about that trail. As for all these other areas that Jaradszakacs is talking...
We were told the name many years ago by one of the old locals, but never got the story to go with it. It's one of our secret spots, so now we might have to destroy all evidence of this area.;) It's a nice place to play, but very avy prone. Only hit it when conditions are stable. Did you see...
We used to climb the ski hill every year after it shut down. They don't allow it anymore, and have big signs posted. We could also get into haig lake during the year before the ski hill opened up the new chair. Now it's all off limits. It's fun to sneak in there, but we don't anymore. We...
If your buddy keeps his m1000 stock, you will give him a run for his money in all conditions. If he starts to add a few mods (pipe, porting, head etc.) you will need a turbo to stay close.
here's another one. This is from a hill that always slides every year several times per year. The track is from a one ski machine. For the most part I was impressed where they could go, but several places they cut across the face of hills that always slide. The one hill (not this one) has a...

Wet and slushy down low. Trail is disappearing. Higher up we found lots of new snow, but it is setting up very fast. Mostly wet heavy stuff. Not nearly as good as the reports make it sound. A few nice areas left if you look hard enough, but the trail sucks :(
I bet the guys in these pics don't visit these forums. Not sure who took the pic, but did they get an ear full? I see stupid stuff way too much as well, but if no one says anything, they will continue.
