Sidewinder oil capacity and roll over valve

Just cleaned rov last night for first time. Will stay on that from now on. Also machining 2.5mm off secondary as I can’t get it into alignment based on Yamaha’s numbers. Exploded a belt a few days ago. First belt I’ve ever had fall apart in 30yrs riding. Lol

Sidewinder oil capacity and roll over valve

Did the first oil change in my 18 SW last week. I let the motor and oil tank drain over night and filled the next day. It took 3.6L to get it to read in between the min-max line once warm. The service manual says 2.8L. Checked a few times since and does not appear to be over full. Does this...

    New to me 18 SW

Have more seat time on this sled and really like it. Punched into Area 51 south of Revy right after a good storm last weekend and got a good mix of trees, meadows and alpine riding. Around that elevation (Gauge shows 7200-7500 alpine) the Sidewinder was revving at 8100. Currently running the...

Stealth Controls (2019) on 17 or 18 SW

I like the polaris switches in the console for the heaters, probably will do that for sure. On the throttle side, may go with a CR block and use a Poo kill and PERC. Already have a grip heater that lost high temp so will pull it apart and play around with it later this week. Got my LINQ...

Stealth Controls (2019) on 17 or 18 SW

Got a few miles on my 18 SW now and really like it. However, the handlebar controls, the same as on my 2011 M8 are terrible. I know there are guards to go around the buttons, but after riding in deep snow for a couple days, snow packs in and freezes up many buttons and TORS starts acting up...

    Golden 2018-2019

Agreed oler1234, i was in the mines last weekend. When we went back in Sunday the ladies at the booth asked how many we saw up with us. There were 2 more come in behind us so 4 sleds in total. They said that they had roughly 70 paid to go into Silent and many said they were going to...

    New to me 18 SW

Have High Torque rollers ordered. Also going to swap to 8LR00 loaded with steel 4.5g rivets, and put secondary spring at 3-3. Put on a few more miles on and rpm was over 9K most of the time. Have the Linq adapters ordered from Canada Sled Parts too, have bought steering posts from them before...

    2011 M8 bog

Secondary rollers are good, I took apart the secondary, cleaned and inspected all components. Seems to be all good. Will take the primary weights out next as Lund suggested to check for wear. I did compress it a little and rotated the rollers and weights to check for binding but never completely...

    800 engine mileage

Finally got the Axys back running. Fresh motor with new crank, pistons, cylinder, head, exhaust valves, all new motor mounts and obviously all new bearings and seals throughout. Its for sale in the classified section and has been drove approx 0.5km. I bought a Sidewinder a month ago and also...

    New to me 18 SW

I had this sled out in revy this past weekend. Stock clutching seemed good. Was revving at 8800-8900 when I had a chance to look. Never did any good pulls due to areas we rode and then bad visibility. Did notice one roller already has a flat spot. Sled has 275km on it so that’s is...

    2018/19 Revelstoke and Area Updates

The crust is in Griffin too. Rode boulder today, visibility was very poor so played in the private meadows as best we could. Did find some really nice little pockets of powder.

    New to me 18 SW

Talking with a guy today and he asked how many belts I’m packing with me ? I said 1 spare. He’s saying that the SW is a belt eater. Not sure, usually the Yamaha’s from what I’ve seen the last 20yrs have been pretty good. I guess keep an eye on the rollers in secondary, but other than that?

I hear ya on the flap, the PC is a chucker. Are the yamaha flaps better than the Cat ones. My old M was a flap eating machine! LOL. May do the CFR bars, have them on my M as well, been very happy with them. The forecast does look promising I cant wait! Another thing was wondering about was if...

    New to me 18 SW

I have always carried lots of fuel with the 2 smokes, pretty typical to put on 200km in some areas we get into south of Golden, spring time anyway. Was hoping to not have to go back to tarp straps or ratchet straps holding jerry cans down. Its a minor detail anyway, I may be able to fab...

    New to me 18 SW

Will give the riser an honest try before looking into a viper post setup. Does anybody have the same proclimb rear bumper with that silly gas rack type thing on it? Is there a tank and straps specifically for it? I have been running the Mountain Addiction tank on all my stuff but since the SW...

    2011 M8 bog

Primary clutch was new about 1000km ago, and I put BDX rock rollers in around the same time so we will see. Thanks for the ideas, just trying to think outside the box.

    New to me 18 SW

Well I have done it. Brought home a new to me 18 50th anniv 162 SW. Still have a 2011 M8 162 for my spare sled, and a 16 Axys 163 still on warranty in the shop for yet another full engine rebuild. Excited to try something completely different. Been mountain riding since the late 90's and...
