Fierce or valterra- edge granular in fall
Good burn off
Clearfield varieties give you a few more options for in crop but not a lot more - non clearfield your limited to sencor and a grassy seperste passes
Bank on a fungicide app- not only for disease prevention but they stand up way better for harvest- especially if get a rain on them when close to ripe
Pre harvest. Reglone. 15 gal water. 5 days combine will still be green & bit gummy in bottom so good knife essential. Round up & heat works too 10-15 days tho
Reglone doesn’t kill just dries out so plan on getting after them asap as can start re growing ifits wet for days
Excellent nitrogen fixation crop

Yep good rotational crop if pea prices are not where you want them and like Kovs said great nitrogen fixation crop. Lentils always seem like pricing is good but could be volatile if current government gets in again. India is our biggest customer and Modi hates the Turd.

We are nearing 35 cents. Which is decent Hold out for 40 and carry over again then sell for 30

You guys are giving me FOMO. I grew up farming and started combining at age 12. Grandpa put me in the combine while he went for a nap but didn't tell me how to stop it. He was sitting at the edge of the field in his truck. Luckily I got my grandma on the two way and she told me how to push the clutch and get it in neutral. I barely weighed enough to do it. Did a bunch of custom work during and combining for 15 plus years.

Our family farm is ch!t down pretty much now as they've gone they're separate ways.

I can't believe how big those headers are getting! I truly loved combining!

Had the big beast out near Chauvin yesterday. Rolling right along with the FD261 on the CR11. Check out the sample in the grain tank...nice and clean.

Were looking at reds, we have grown peas and flax in the past just have never grown lentils, they will be going on canola stubble

Spray fierce in fall just prior to freeze up and your fields will be clean. Edge is a waste of money, never works. Pick clean fields to grow them on. Seed early, if they are not in the ground by second week of May don't bother, preferable seeded late april. Be careful of solo carryover, especially on ground with low organic matter or in dry conditions, these droughts I've started just spraying assure if there aren't too many weeds, solo kinda sucks anyways.

Also if you don't get fierce sprayed in fall you'll have to use Valtera in spring as fierce is fall application only for lentils. Works okay but not nearly as good as fierce.

Nephews marketing guy told us to dump our durum a month and a half ago for $8.50 because Canadian durum is on the decline on the world stage as Turkey now supplies Italy and other European countries with cheaper durum and less freight. Thinking now this marketing guy might be better suited as a weather forecaster. Weather guys never get it right and we all know it.

I could never be a marketing guy. Imagine having to try and convince someone to keep using your services after you lost them a ton of money haha. Same with investment advisors. Like yeah I know I lost you a 1/4 million dollars last year but can you please pay me for advice still

I screwed up my marketing so bad in 2021 I probably left close to $300000 on the table. The last 3 years I've sold most of my crop at or near the highs though and this year pre contracted durum at 10.25 and brown mustard at .72/lb so look like a genius. Still going to lose ungodly amounts of money though

Small greens are worth almost double of small reds. Don’t waste your time on lentils if you have weeds, or rocks. They easily drown out as well in high moisture years. We plant 1/4 of our acres to lentils. We swath our lentils to dry the weeds since we don’t desiccate. Straight cutting is the way to go, but you’re shaving the ground, that’s why I say don’t bother if you have rocks, a good crop can be a break even crop if you eat a rock. But if you’re late swathing, they shell out as well when you pick them up. If they’re flat on the ground or in swaths on the ground and you get rain they sprout. They’re also very heavy, so if your grain cart is borderline too big for the drawbar on tractor don't fill it up all the way.
