Had a '13 KTM 300XC for 2 years before it was stolen. Replaced it with a '16 YZ250X and put the money I saved over another KTM into oversize tank and other parts. I couldn't be happier with the 250X, I'm 6'2" wear 36/34 pants and the ergo's are perfect with a taller seat and Wyndham MX bars raised about 1" over stock (pegs are stock).

Everyone still enjoying their 250x?? Going through this debate right now and leaning heavy on the Yammi with the price difference. Doing mostly single track and some backcountry

I have a 2016 YZ 250X and love it. By far the best 2 stroke I have owned. I've been riding Honda CR's since the mid 80's to it's last year of production. I've owned 11 125/ 250 CR's over the years along with 3 CRF 450's. All great machines. I decided on the YZ 250X as to get into something lighter again. Hands down for me the handling, suspension, engine and ergo's are hard to beat. I had a chance to ride a KTM 300 XC-W with EFI last summer. I was a great machine and did everything well. However, I don't know if it's $3000.00 better. In the trees or on a track the YZ is a weapon. Don't need estart on a 250cc engine. All I did was add Acerbis hand guards and skid plate. Good to go!

Yamaha ergos always fitted me best of any of the brands. I'm far from competitive so the extras on the ktm aren't worth the added cost. Looks like I'll be going the the 250x! Thanks!

I'm very happy with my '16 250x. Chassis and suspension are top notch. The 250 engine is a little down on torque compared to the KTM 300 obviously but there are numerous big bore options available. Only minor complaint I have is the steering head bearings needed replacement prematurely. Otherwise it's been bulletproof fast and reliable.

What year did Yamaha start making the 250x? Any differences/improvements through the years?

What should a guy be looking at for a price on either a good used 250x vs new?

16- 20 model years are all the same. Different decals and rim color. A slight larger front rotor I think from 17 and newer.

Picked up a new '20 250x a few weeks ago. Only a couple rides on it so far but probably the funnest bike I've had yet. Suspension seems awesome. Lugs surprisingly well in the dirty single track stuff. Bike is a barrel of fun
