Im keeping my options open so im looking at older sleds as well. My friend has a 97 mxz 670 and it has given him zero trouble and i know he has a boatload of km's on it.

Can anyone offer some words of advice on this machine?

Thanks

Steve

The 670 series of sleds have always been reliable. My 98 670 summit x ran for roughly 5000 and had a piston go but I ran that baby hard.
I think you 'll be really happy with the sled.

The one im looking at has 1500 kms on it and he changed out the piston/rings last season. Its not broken in yet, has around 20 kms on it since he did the overhaul. I asked him why he changed out the pistons so early and he said that he likes to do them at the 1500 mark. He used oem piston, rings, etc and it wasnt bored, just needed to be honed.

He is asking 3950 for the 97, probably room to move a few hundred dollars.

Price seem ok?

On a side note, he has another sled that i wish was for sale, a 99 summit x with 136 kms on it. I guess he doesnt get out very often haha.

"Myself" I have a real hard time buying a used long track unless it is real cheap ( thats why I only have short tracks) cause you have to remember "most" of the mileage on it is at full throttle screaming up a mountian where the air is a little thinner and you hope the hac or dpm on has allways worked properly. Maybe I looking it too much but to me a sled in Mcbride would have hardly any motor left but a good chassis, a sled from Regina would have lots of motor but the chassis would be beat from hard landings all the time. So I guess the best thing to buy is a long track from Canora SK :p
If your going to be a part timer sledder like myself the S-chassis sleds are fine I love mine there is lots of used parts out the for them and the 670 is a strong motor :twocents:.....and everyone at one time has probably owned one .....except ditch pickle dude ;), so lots of knowledge on here

If You Have The Choice Between A '99 670x Summit And A '97 670 Summit, The '99 670x Would Be The Hands Down Winner...... The Motor Makes The Difference --- The "x" Is The Big Rave Valve Set-up With Dpm(digital Performance Management), And They Are Glorious Monsters. The Regular 670 Will Have Hac(high Altitude Compensation), But They Cannot Touch The "x"670..... When Properly Set-up They Can Still Win In Sled Drags Against 700 And Even 800's. They Are Very Reliable. $3950 For The '97 Is Steep.... You Can Probably Pick Up A Good Stock '99 670x For That, Come Sleddin' Season. Hope That Helped, keep Us Informed.............

I sold my 98 for $3500.00 last spring. The motor was professionally rebuilt (including truing the crank) and had roughtly 500km on it. Everything was in great shape.
I think the price is a bit steep.
My 2 cents worth.

thanks for the price check info. Its hard to figure out what things are worth when theres not much for sale.

I found one 99 670x but the guy wants 4500 for it and he is going with the first person who called gets to look at it first. Im number 3 on the list so we shall see. I guess ill just keep on looking :)

800 For $4250.00.......... Wow

Wow, That Is An Awesome Looking And "very" Clean Sled.... No Scuffs On The Tunnel From Boots, And Even The Exhaust Shroud Is Only Missing 1 Little Piece.... Awesome Price, Wish I Were Looking, Hmmm, Maybe I Will. That Wrapping On The W/s Is A New Windshield Film That All New Windhsields Have On Them. Lococoin, I Think You Need To Look At That Sled.... The Zx Chassis Is Definately A 1 Up On The Old "s" Chassis Design(way Better Handling And Ride) And The 800 Is A Proven Engine Combination. Good Luck. :):):)
Nice Pickin's There Murm!!!! ;)

The guy emailed me back. said its got 4000 kms on it, engine has never been touched. Im going to bring a compression tester with, ive heard that as long as its over 125 it should be good.

When do they usually recommend doing the top end in these machines? If its something thats going to need to be done soon i need to factor that into the price.

Thanks in advance.

GOOD IDEA TO DO A COMPRESSION TEST, BUT I THINK HE ALREADY HAS THE MILEAGE FACTORED IN JUDGING BY THE PRICE........ ITS AWESOME. SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET HIM TO $4000.00 OR EVEN $3900.00?;)

Ya the price is pretty good already. I will be doing my infamous steve semi lowball and see how it goes.

I price checked oem parts. Holy schmoly are they expensive! Im assuming that aftermarket is a bit more reasonable, or at least i would hope.
