Lots of fresh, but open water to get into Lost, no one had made it yesterday as far as I heard. We didnt try, but we talked to a few other groups that had tried. Sleds full of ice from the water LOL

We stuck to the trails, broke trail in many spots, great day, but way too COLD! We actually bailed on todays ride, -25 this morning with a -35 windchill

Group of about 10-12 tried getting into Lost Lake yesterday. Lot of trouble with one of the creeks. Plenty of fresh snow but no base, lots of land mines and stuck sleds. Got too late in the day for our group to continue, never did make it all of the way into Lost. Probably try again this weekend. Was in Castle about 3 weeks ago and i am sure the conditions there are much better.

Yep, that was us, I remember your son...Wow, small world. Someone suggested our usernames on our sleds, and it sounds like a better idea all the time.

We had a great day breaking virgin trail, lots of stucks with the girls, and my oldest nailed a tree and ran into a creek.

Nice meeting you guys too!!

Well, I was impressed to see him on his own sled to say the least. The 2 girls on the Cats were mine, 13 and 14, and I have them on an M6 and M7, the buddy with me thinks im nuts, he just bought his kids the Skidoo Freeride 500 that was there. Fine sled, light as heck, but no track for what we had there and if you go bigger track, then no power. I figured that if Im gonna take them to the mountains, they need to learn to ride a mtn sled. They have really impressed me so far.

My oldest is the one that nailed the tree...says she 'zoned out' and looked up and saw the water so aimed for the tree...bad aim I guess, she got em both LOL

Ya, will do, we are planning a 'dads only' trip now that we have had the kids out, and we really like the area. Little closer for us too, and the wife and 3rd daughter went skiing at Castle mtn. They loved it there! Other than getting raped for the hotel room at the Ramada it was a great couple days.

At least the room was nice...get what you pay for (sorta)

Here is a more detailed description of how to get to the York Creek staging area.
York Creek staging area #48 (this access is south of Coleman and leads to the South Trail System – trails to Airplane Crash, Lost Lake, South Snowmobile shelter)
Highway #3 between Blairmore and Coleman is also called 20th Avenue so just BEFORE entering Coleman take the first left turn (the street sign marked 89th St. 20 Ave.) – located across from the C.C.H.S. High School. About 300 feet from that turn make another left turn which takes you across the railway tracks. After crossing the tracks turn right and follow 15 Ave., which runs parallel to the tracks, until you reach 83rd Street . At 83rd Street turn left, cross the bridge, go up one block and then turn right on 13 Avenue. From there just follow 13 Avenue in behind Bushtown (locals name for this part of Coleman) and up the hill (called the York Creek Road) which will take you to the staging area.

Jan,

We were somewhere totally different I think...hmmm, confused now...

We went east of Pincher, through Beaver Mines almost to the ski hill, so is this the same trail system?
