May or may not come as a shock to some frequent users here, I'm sure you've read I've had trouble with my '11 850... Well today I got it back, and it really didn't come as much of a shock. I almost expected it to poop out again... I'm right.

I've even had a post on a last thread with a link to Kawasaki followed by "the answer"... I forget the user that posted that, but the idea stuck, and if the dealer can't fix this quad let me know how that Kawi runs... Pretty good I imagine, my buddies Brute always seems to pull me out.

Anyways, I got it back, $250 later to fix my brakes... Great.. And I also was told there should be no more oil in the airbox, they replaced the seal (even though there was no damage) on the clutch housing. That, and the oil was covered by warranty. Saved me 400 bucks.

Anyways, I was fairly happy but not convinced to bring it home. Sure enough.... 1 floor-board deep puddle later, my quad can't make it out of that one either. Motor revs.... Tires are rather... stationary.

Long story short... Drained the clutch.... AGAIN!!! And parked it.

And yeah... Quad is 4 months old, roughly 50-60km on it.

Thats my rant... What do you think? :(

i would say that either the clutch backing plate is not sealed to the housing right or there is a crack in the housing somewhere. I had to replace my clutch backing plate this spring as it had a crack in it. It wasn't a big one and was very hard to find and see.

Why are you so worried about losing the warranty if you fix it yourself? your obviously not getting anything from the warranty except a headache and wasting time hauling it to the dealer. Take it into your own hands and fix the problem then enjoy good riding time without many breakdowns.

(Remember I told ya XP stood for xtra pricey) If your gonna play ya gotta pay!

Tear the thing down, rear plastics off footwells etc.etc. Put it on clean paper and CAREFULLY fill the clutch housing full with clean water. let it sit and watch for where the water is coming out. If it is getting in , it can also come out there.....
Taking it back over and over is apparently solving nothing. There are very few if any other complaints of this type on this machine, so i would think yours is a one of type issue....it`s up to you to find it. Or sell the bike .

Thanks for the replies, is there a lemon law here in Alberta?

I know my buddy had to threaten to sue Can-Am before he got a new quad. His blew the motor twice because of dealer issues and had multiple brake failures and terrible service.

Trust me, I'm not thick skulled church goer. I'm an agnostic! :)

I'm doubtful a dealer can actually fix the problem, but if I can get a new quad out of it like my buddy, why not. Could be cracked or warped. In which case I need a new cover. :(

Upon install.... SILICONE!!!!!!! I want that stuff to be water tight!

BTW... Shoulda got the 800... I rode with two of 'em and a Brute. ExtraPricey keeps getting stuck.

Haha that was me! If I was you I would take it in for the warranty work then put it on kijiji. And buy either a Brute or 800 outlander

But what if its cracked or warped? Might as well get warranty to get me a new one.

I thanked you for that helpful post. ;) I'm thinking if we have a lemon law in Alberta I'll just claim it as a lemon and trade it in for the red '09 Brute they have there.... After I get my aftermarket tires and rims off my XP. :d

BTW, No Canned Ham's for this guy... I want an actual diff lock, none of this non-lockup torque converter BS. Thats why I got the XP over the 'Ham.

just buy a brute!:d

Now thats 2 votes... The heat thickens...

Sorry, not trying to be a jerk. However because you get some water in your clutch housing does not mean the bike is a lemon.....imo.

All bikes have issues and that multiplies when we use them for more than they were designed for, or modify them. You can go to any brand and they all have there QUIRKS or little things that need improvement. If you buy a Brute and smoke the belt backing up is that a lemon ? If you can`t steer a king quad like you should is that a lemon....

I think it would be much more cost effective to solve the minor issues you have now ,apposed to having to prove your bike has been a lemon...

All bikes have issues ,it`s up to us to stay one step ahead....

Hope you get it goin for you.....

Your right and I'm just a little rattled up that a brand new quad is doing this.

I know smoking the belt doesn't make it a lemon, thats rider error, but this is a factory defect. Right now its back at the dealer for the 3rd time to get checked over for cracks.

I heard over on another forum when its all fixed, said and done, pull it apart and RTV it so its never going to leak. Might just have to do that.

I got water in my belt on friday, but when the wave of water comes over your rack that can be expected. I would do as said above find the leak your self then if you want you can tell the dealer where the leak is since they cant seem to find it. fixing your own chit won't void your warrenty as long as what you did dosn't cause a problem. I would phone a diff dealer and tell them your problem that you have had it a said dealer 3 times problem not fixed what can they do I am sure someone can figure it out.

I'm not sure why you would spens the time fixing it yourself when you have warranty. If you fix it yourself and something major goes that's just another reason for the dealer not to fix it

but if he can at least find the leak than he knows and can tell the dumba$$ tech what to fix. plus Polaris will have it on file that he has complained about it several times so even if he dose take it apart it he shouldn't have any issues with warranty. I think the only solution here is to find a diff dealer. I am thinking that the clutch cover or backing is cracked, cause water is getting in pretty easy, I think if was just a bad seal it wouldn't fill so fast.

I have a 750 Brute I am going to sell and was considering a 2011 850 XP. My Brute had issues with water as well, the water would hit the exhaust and the steam would get sucked in the air intake and choke the engine, I drilled a 2" hole in the air box cover and inserted a water proof screen (cannot remember exactly what is was called) but anyway it solved the problem. I think all quads have a quirk when it comes to water to some extent.
