either way i dont see this cable being an issue so long as there is no rubbing it should last forever.

the cable i put on one of the 08s this summer also had no cover
does the sheath move with the cable, or does it remain stationary while the cable slides in and out?

Mine frayed inside the sheath, It looked fine until I took it out.

If it does not completely extend when you let go of the throttle, or there is slack on the adjuster, it's prolly hooped.

is it possible to change this cable without pulling the motor? Crappy part is i wrecked my cable at the thumb end, now have to replace the whole thing. Hope I dont have to pull the motor just to change the throttle cable.:eek::eek:

Yes you can change the cable with the motor in the sled. Long skinny fingers would help but if not pull the back 2 bolts and tip the motor forward hope it helps. Oh and ya might have to pull yer pipe too!!

Just did it in January.

YOu have to pull the airbox, secondary, pipe, brake guard, clutch tower, carbs, reeds, fuel pump, and all 4 motor bolts. Lift the motor as much as you can.

Get a couple of long needle nose pliers, bent and straight, and a set of flare nut wrenches, princess auto has them cheap.

And patience is also a requirement. Route the cable through and under the motor mount.

Realign motor, and put her back together.

I put everything back together and of course I forgot to bring the camera to take some pics. I ended up bending the mount upward to a better angle and it still has to bend downward a few degrees, but nowhere close to where it was. now the cable does not rub throughout it's motion except to touch the threaded end at both extreme ends of arm travel.

I adjusted the cable accordingly to the amount I figure that the cable end moved away from the arm at rest, 16.5mm is the setting for cable adjustment so I knocked 4mm off that and it seems to be on par for oil consumption so far.

this was by far the WORST pain in the ace repair I have had to do on any sled ever. Still not sure how I got the cable on the arm, must have held my tongue just right and crossed my eyes at the exact right moment. I did however do it without removing the engine mounts and lifting the engine.

Hopefully I have the cable adjusted right. I noticed when I took the old one off the nuts where set all the way back to the cable housing, so I put the new one the same.

the adjustment measurement is taken in the middle of the cable, above your recoil. there is a rubber sleeve that covers the adjuster, you have to pull it up the cable a ways to expose the upper end and then wedge your throttle so there is no slack. then pull the upper part of the cable out of the adjuster and measure the amount of cable showing. your final measurement should be 16.5mm of exposed cable.

that one isn't as crucial, just make sure it's set so the carbs open all the way...lol. mine has just a few mm of movement at the flipper before the slides move.
