My 09 Summit started to leak at the seal with around 400 km's on it.
I took it to the dealer and they replaced the seal, and it works fine.
I mentioned run out to them, and they didn't seem to concerned.
I suppose I'll find out if it piles up this season.

The proper way to remove and install the seal is to split the case as the seal does have a raised ridge lip that holds it in place.

if you dont pressure test it you could end up with a air leak causing a lean failure. that would suck deep back in the bush:eek:

The Xp seal has the raised edge but it does not go in the case. It goes right to the case and the ridge is held with the plate. Its like Doo made it to change/service. I did mine today and its super easy the bearing still had lots of grease on it so I just pushed the new grease with my finger slapped the seal and put plate back on. It looks like I caught it right away, I have had my clutch off twice last year and no leak. Heres hoping for the best:beer:

Mine was caused from clutch heat. Aligned my clutches and repacked the new seal and no leak all season last year. Careful with packing the bearing too much as pressure can build. I measue what I take out and then put the same back in. ( maybe a hair more )

Yah I figure if I just pushed it in with my finger it shouldn't be to much. I have three days in Revy with the fun flipper stuck to the bar :d and when I got home not a drop coming out :specool: I'll have to wait for that Big Bore till next problem:(

why they changed it late 2003 was because when you blew a belt you had to tear engine down to change seal which is usually the reason the seal goes
