WOW, i cant believe that people are still beating a dead horse here! It is my sled, my money, my decision to do what i did! Maybe i wont like it, maybe i will love it! The fact is that my thread isn't " i have a clutch kit here, but should i leave it stock?" No, if you don' have anything to add to what topic is, then get lost!

The XM's clutching works great in tight trees. Up and back shift is great. Engagement is smooth but strong and gets the track moving great. I ride at 6000+ feet and I still haven't changed my clicker position. I am only revving about 7600 rpm WOT in deep heavy powder. I will be switching to clicker 2 on my next ride which should have me at 7800 ish. Yeah I agree, clutch kits today aren't as necessary as before. To be honest I don't think that the XM needs any changes what so ever. I'm even happy with my stock exhaust can lol. This being said from a guy coming off an M8 turbo and I also run an M1100 turbo. I know mods and when machines need/require them. To be perfectly honest, the XM doesn't.

newused, you need to update your sig. And I agree with you about the stock can, so that makes two of us at least. How about aftermarket shocks/springs?

Sure it runs fine with the stock can. But that's an easy ~15lbs you could shave off with an aftermarket.
And I agree with the clutching comment earlier. The little bit of riding I have at low elevation indicates to me that it doesn't need any improvements like past models did.

Haha yeah I haven't been on the full site in forever. I'm not even sure what my sig says anymore lol. I've been using the tapatalk app for this and snowest lol. As far as aftermarket shocks and springs go, I don't see any need for them as of now. Perhaps in the spring time a need to upgrade the shocks may come to light but as things are going with this sled so far, I don't see any need. If I was to change the shocks, I would use the Raptor shocks. Great great product they've got.

Changing clutching on a stock sled helps. Is a clutch kit going to get you more track speed climbing? With the right set up you MIGHT gain 1-2 mph or nothing at all, could go backwards too. The stock clutching in the xm IMO is a good drag race setup if you pin it to the bar and point it up the hill, maintains rpm very well too, clutches shift out nice, and the sled is snappy down low, but the low gearing will helps with that.
Where I found the stock clutching is lacking, is track speed recovery when cycling the throttle on a climb, and definitely lacking engine braking.
The primary setup has not changed, just the secondary and the gearing. There is room for improvement, but yah never get something for nothing.
The question a fellow has to ask himself is how much money and time does he want to put into clutching? Because of right now, I can change clickers without getting them black, clutch temps are actually pretty decent , I have no belt greasing on the sheave faces, and when I wipe my finger in the engine the belt dust is very minimal.
For me I think I can overlook the cons of the stock clutching this year and just enjoy getting out and riding.

The issue is the rpms start to drop down 300-400 rpm while climbing. you can back off the throttle and hit it again and the rpm will go to 7900-8000 rpm but than slowly start dropping. Install a dj clutch kit and this problem will go away.
Alot of people can't be bothered to change because they don't understand or the sled is performing good enough for their liking. Each to there own.

the OP has no idea what his rpm's are doing on a climb because he has never climbed with it. are you saying every XM has this issue, in all conditions? maybe try going up a clicker?

MY xm pulls down to 7400 on long pulls. I thought it was my (thing)can not my clutching. New to doo and all so I don't know. Also I am on clicker 5 at high elevation

well then, some clutching may be required. I run a DJ helix in my secondary, pretty happy with his stuff as well. another guy to check out is Rooster Built. he does only mountain clutch work, lots of happy customers.

Never had much luck with "clutch kits" until I bought a rooster built for my 2010. Very very happy with it. These guys ride what they sell, and if there are no gains to be had they will tell you that.

yes all the foam is gone except a small piece on lower panel near clutch I was also thinking this.. I thought it would seal in a way to keep snow dust out but maybe its getting wet and adding moisture I will rip it out.
