So I have lived where I live for 10 years. Rural parkland county.

Life has been safe and quiet.

But last 4 months.

-Super box mail boxes Broken into 5 times.

-Stolen cheque to my company fraudulently cashed into some body else's account. $13000

-last week come home to a man hunt of a half dozen cop cars searching for two males in a white BMW.

-today 7:00 am. A stolen Mitsubishi Lancer gets its exterior doused in gas a lit on fire right in the middle of the entrance to our subdivision.

Great stuff for my kids to witness from the end of our driveway as they wait for their bus.

So question is: Anyone know where to buy gate and operator supplies in the edmonton area?

A couple of game cameras in the bad spots and a dog with an attitude

Yep. Got some dogs. But they are getting old.

Interested in game camera recommendations. Can they store a month worth of pictures from a high traffic location. Do they take pics of vehicle or just animals.

But the gate is going up! Then a more elaborate camera system too.

Thousands of pictures and last a long time, good to get these crooks off the streets and in jails, instead of into your mail boxes.

I have the green Hi Hog gates and they just ran into them with a truck and destroyed them. Now i have to replace the post and gates should be under 300.00. Just be careful on what you choose as it can cost a lot if they are real fancy.

Gates are meant to keep things in not out.

Gates and locks only seem to stop the honest thieves
My wife wants a gate here, I said hell no and that's what I told her, only keeps the honest ones at bay

If they want in the will fawk it up, cut it up, what ever

Then your having to fix a screwed up gate

I'm more worried someone might steal my gate. Took me along to build it. Been bad in Lacombe too. Last week Lacombe had 15 vehicles stolen in one night.

Sure. I realize if they want my **** they will steal it anyway but no point making it easy. With out a gate it it's too easy to just drive in an look around to scope it out for another time. You gotta know what's in there before you want to steal it.

Still getting a gate!

You guys leave your trucks unlocked and keys in it so they don't break a window and f up the ignition?

That's nice looking gate! A bit of a step up from what I'm probably looking for. But not looking for a cattle pen either.

UN locked yes, no keys no

I don't drive a 6.0 l Ford diesel, so vehicles have theft security

Keys are in both my vehicles and gun and is at the ready in my room. Pop in a mag and chamber a shell. If you come out to my place I want the thieves bastards to get in the truck and go. Come in my house and your fawked. Oh ya you must also get past my pyranese dog. If I lived in town I would keep my stuff locked up but I'm 15min out of Brooks so if you are out creeping where I live your coming with the intent of stealing. I don't want the hassle of someone in my yard so take truck and go. RCMP can deal with it at that point.

Really bad string south of red deer at our farm and neighbors. People went into the house and stole phones/mail. Seems to be the thing right now. Also several instances of pulling hand guns in people to steal their trucks the too. Brutal right now. Apparently alone Crossfield and Airdrie too. My buddies truck gets broken into weekly

It is now your fault if you get robbed in the "new Canada" .....not the thieves. However i am not sure who's fault it is when a mean golden retriever shreds them. Maybe racism charges can be laid against this f..ing mean dog.

I keep my gate at my farm closed and locked at all times. And I have “no trespassing “ signs posted at the gate and all 4 corners of the property. If you don’t post your property as no trespassing you have no ability to complain about someone entering your property. It’s common for thieves to enter a property and if questioned they say “ I was looking for John smith’s place” as they scope out the property. The police will not charge for trespassing without the property being posted because the crown prosecutor will not carry forward a charge as there is a reasonable expectation that the person trespassing didn’t know he was entering the property without permission. It’s assumed that non posted property is ok to enter (property, NOT a dwelling) for “ reasonable and lawful purposes “ (eg door to door sales, census etc).
Even your local county representatives cannot enter a posted property without either permission or a court order. I had a conflict with a tax assessor at my old acreage and had him charged when he entered without permission. It got tossed of course but the county issued a letter of apology.
If you have a closed gate and the property posted, the person entering has deliberately committed two acts: he’s opened a closed gate and ignored the sign. If the gate was locked, add a third act of destroying the lock, and in doing that he’s committed a criminal code offence of breaking and entering.
It won’t stop the determined thief, but it makes your property less desirable as a target. It also demonstrates ill intent if you’re home and a strange vehicle drives up. You know they’ve broken a couple of laws to get there and you can act accordingly in your defence.
The bad guys are getting bolder and more aggressive all the time. It’s only a matter of time until someone gets shot
