wtf holds the hub nut on a arctic cat quad?

anyone ever take a hub nut off of an artic cat quad, wtf are they held on with, a 700lb impact wouldn't take it of nor will a socket on the end of a 6 ft snipe, had to quit, thought something was going to break, wtf. are they welded on? looks like some sort of loctite may be under the nut, wtf, it is locked on with a castle nut and cotter pin.

tried heat and a 700lb impact shheeet don't move, cut the friggin nut off. bastages, no way you'd fix it in the bush, may as well look at the other three, losen them off now, instead of later. hope they come off, got a 1200 lb impact now, bastages.

yeah i looked at that also, think they have red loctite on nut. or some kind of equivalent, kitty cat dealer showed me his 6 ft pretzel pry bar they use, 6 x 150lbs of force = 900ft lbs, not sure why they have castle nut, loctited and cotter pin also, guy behind counter, grinned and said good luck WTF.

First time I took my old beast's front end apart 3 years ago it was a HUGE PITA, but the rear axle was a breeze....go figure!

Cripes man, that's ridiculous. Maybe try to break it loose by slightely tightening it first. ...maybe try putting the beer down and taking out the cotter pin.

Took cotter pin out hehe, had two torches on the nut, it was friggin smokin, hit it with a 1200 lb impact, the friggin thing still didn't move on or off. Wtf. Only thing left is a 1 inch 2000lb impact, what if that don't work? Got 3 of 4 off. Friggin ridiculous

If there is any elasticity in the nut (rotational wise) it sucks the hammer action out of the impacts and they do squat, try a hammer wrench?

hey thanks maybe that was the problem, had the brakes on hard as they would go, still had hub movement, will try to keep it stready, maybe a pry bar will hold it, just don't want to break the hub. will give it a try, otherwise i'll have to cut it off.

replaced a boot on the inner cv joint, looks like none of the nuts have ever been removed. After the first one, the 1200 lb impact removed 2 more but the third one, no way hozay. absolutly no way to repair in the field.

again thanks Don, will see if eliminating movement will work.

The big bar is the only way I've found. Like stated above if it moves the impact won't do it. They are torqued to 200 ft lbs on most. Apply heat first to loosen up the loc-tite then use the bar. I've had to jump on a 5' foot bar. It's not often but once in a while you'll get one like that. It is NOT reverse thread

yes, the thread is a righty tighty, i didn't realize the hub movement had that effect, but upon looking at it yes it would not work, anyway i haven't had time to try it again, the first attempt was with heat and a 6 ft snipe, i was scared something was going to blow up. think they used some space age alien loctite derivative. man it is on there,

I don't understand why they would use loctite on a castle nut with a cotter pin, seems like overkill to me. the times I've had to take these machines apart to change axle boots etc, I've done them in the campsite with only hand tools...... Someone else must have had that one apart before you got to it Larry.

couldn't say tyler, had some type of goo under and around the nut, all i can say it isn't coming off on it's own, the first nut i had a huge bend in a 6 ft pipe over a 3/4 inch rachet, friggin thing wouldn't move. 700 lb impact did nothing, got a 1200lb and it came off, as the next 2, but thre left rear said haha you lose. no way it will come off, but the hub was moving. going to give it another go with hub imobilized, lock it in place with a pry bar, n see what happens. guy at kitty cat shop said they have the same problem and grinned. i think the bastage is evil.
