Nope. Class 5 only. Don't need a class 6 for a Canam Spyder either.

I would clarify with local authorities first but in Alberta 2 or three wheel is classified as motorcycle. Class 6 required. It is even stated on the sling shot web page if look for demo. I ask as well when I want to demo one. Same for can am.

In BC a class 6 is required no if or buts on Can-am Spyders, Rykers, Polaris Slingshot and HD trikes. They all fall under the motorcycle act.
And yes a helmet is mandatory.

Though in BC you can purchase, register and insure any motorcycle defined vehicle with out a class 6 license and some do with no questioned asked, atleast till the cops pull you over for driving(riding) it....LOL

I rode one 2yrs ago for the hell of it, the dealer demo. Its interesting, it does not stand on its own like a trike and it is not considered a trike even though it has 3 wheels.
When you ride it, it feels like a regular 2 wheeled motorcycle but a little more inspiring in general because its more sure footed.
The only real draw back is in the twisties, the lean angle is limited, i don't remember the angle but the bike will only allow so much lean with the design though plenty for most riders.

In Alberta, a class 6 is required. If you take the Class 6 with a “trike”, on your license you will have a 6T. You will not be legal to ride a motorcycle.
