As the title says. Would you buy a used sled from a guy on say kijiji, craigslist, etc without seeing it in person?
'Tis almost the season and I still haven't pulled the trigger. Seems like most of the sleds that fit my expectations (wishes) and more importantly price range are in AB.

You have to be carfull. I bought two sleds this year off Kijji. I looked at four. two were garbage. The other two seem like sweet deals. I guess time will tell. I would want to put some conditions on the sale. There are lots of good deals to be had now. Good luck!

I don't like buying without seeing either. I just don't have the time to drive 6 or 8 hours one way.

I'm interested in a sled that is in Sherwood (east of Edmonton) and price is decent, but just too far... :( :frusty:

I just sold my 13 XM on Kijiji. The guy drove to Edmonton from Winnipeg. I sent him lots of pics and video so he knew what he was getting. The fact that I priced it for a quick sale may have been his motivation. Ultimately all he had was my word so like I said earlier, I wouldn't have been in his shoes.

No.
And it's tuff asking someone you don't know in the area to go and check it out.

Too many posters are liberal with descriptions like "Mint" or "Like New" ... have only come across one used sled in many that such terms would have been applicable. Lots of times the guys selling might not even be aware of issues (in fairness) so its difficult unless you really know what to look for, have loads of pictures & video, etc. Unless its a really great deal (not so great as to be suspect) or buying from a dealer who will be around should it not be as represented, best to shop closer to home especially if its a pretty common type sled.
If you're going to buy sight unseen, at least get the vendor to do a proper compression test, video of it running, etc.

I sold my sled in the spring to a kid in Maine he arranged everything, his parents sent me the cash via PayPal then I delivered it to a transport place in Calgary. He got his sled a few weeks later and was so happy.
I guess it depends on the people you are dealing with

Not all deals are bad but you are risking a lot to do it. I have bought stuff from dealers sight unseen until they arrive. Post the link to the machine you're looking at. Maybe someone here knows it or is the seller. Maybe someone can look at it for you and give you an idea of the shape.

My guts tell me not to do it. And I don't feel comfortable asking somebody to waste their valuable time to check it out. And having to arrange shipping/transportation. That's why I started this thread, hoping the responses would confirm it. Hate myself right now :)
