Man I'm doing something wrong. Working Monday to Friday 2-3 days on the road every week. mostly get my weekends but there is never enough time at home with the wife and kids.

I was a the rink 2 weeks ago and i remember a time when hockey dads took there boys to hockey, they must all be out working cause it was all moms. Sad to see really.

My dream is 4 10s 3 off home every night, plus that 7 weeks holidays i was reading abiut earlier.
Anyhow life is about experiences and you'd hate to have none of those...

This means I am off two weekends in a row and then I work two weekends in a row(easier to show than type)

Hey mach, I'm always looking for guys to do quick day trips on the Mon - Thurs off. I do 4 or 5 trips a season like that, leave my house at 4am and ride all day and back at the house around 10 pm. I ride the trees mostly.

wow i would love that, ch!t if ever you looking to go ride let me know, seems like i can take off easier on week days then week ends. But im not a chut rider but love riding....[/QUOTE]

I work shift work 45km from home. we are a 5 team 5 week rotation . so lots of switching days / nights. 3nights,2off,3days,2off,4nights. then for the next 3 weeks only work 2 days a week. So if ya only work your shifts u get lots of time off. But with the amount of turnover we get...u end up working way more.
Last year I was offered a gig in Fort mac, I was very close to pulling the trigger. I worked 850 hours of OT last year.plus the 2100 reg hours I was home in my bed every night. But in fort mac I would have made more $$ just working my reg shift hous then my reg and ot combined so at the end of the day I would have been home 850 hours more! Very tempting! but with a 3 year old and home in my bed every night made the difference for me...for now. 850 hours at home is alot. plus when your on your days off your ON YOUR days off, no called out to work on a weekend night shift. So that alone is huge. Cant tell u how many days I spend wondering when my phone will ring! This year I will tip 950hours of double bubble! But a lot of that was my choice due to this is our 20% retention bonus year.

Thank you Dow hey bud!!

Well I personally work 6 on 6 off and absolutely love it , my wife also works the same shift which allows us to do lots togather or not . Our kids are early 20 so that isn't an issue. We left NS 7 years ago bought a house in Fort Mac 5 years ago and haven't regretted anything , I agree money doesn't make u happy but it sure makes the little things easier. We are not financed to the hilt but we r carrying two mortgages our house here and the lodge in Valemount , my truck is an 01 f250 . We do not work any OT by our choice , we do trade off shifts to get 9 days off instead of six, it works for us . I think it just depends on where your at in your life and also your family dynamics. My 2 cents

Tpower, I wish I could talk my wife into buying something like the lodge, I wouldnt care if it was just my buddies that used it with me lol
And thats exactly what she said, I'd only want my buddies there and SHE'D have to do all the work ( she's very smart )

so 1500 hrs ot..... that means on top of his 183 days normally at work in a year he added a extra 125 days for a grand total of 308 days a year. Now unless somthing changed thats roughly 57 days off in the year for around 5 days a month off add in maybe two weeks of vacation that he must take and couldnt carry over but more than likely subtract that because while on vacation he worked OT adds up to one really shitty year where you lost all friends and family. Now this is just rough math in my head at 430 am after a night shift so there may be a few mistakes :)
I guess for some people money is king!

I just realized that I have 856hrs OT so far this year!!! No wonder I haven't been able to quad. Got to get a job out of town so I can get some time off. LOL We spent most of our year working 5-12's and I spend most weekends on call, but I am home for a few hours every night.

Yup! He would purposely take vac days knowing there would be no one to cover so he would get forced out to work his own shift on ot! I would bet he's over $325 this year easy!

I've been consistently over 800 for the last 5-7 years. But my little guys 3 now and enough is enough. Ya 1500 is pure insanity
No life! Even at 850 I feel like I've missed out on a ton of stuff !
