The lesson to learn here is that everyone now has a video camera in their pocket. If you’re white, and in particular a white male, be careful what you say. Unlike the states,We have no freedom of speech in Canada. You can be charged and prosecuted for “hate speech “ or be forced in front of a human rights tribunal and be found guilty and fined tens of thousands of dollars for merely stating what you think is your opinion.
Persons of colour and particularly muslims now know that they can say and do whatever they want, and should a white person say anything about it, a quick claim of racism is all it takes to have you investigated, possibly charged with a hate crime and probably fired by a cowardly employer who values being politically correct over keeping their employees.
Personally, I can make it known just by looking at someone that I’m displeased with them for whatever reason. I have been accosted several times by people who didn’t like the way I looked at them. They find out quickly that I have no interest in anything that they have to say and that they should shut their mouth.
As for businesses that fire their employees for unrelated activities, I can understand it if their employee was charged with a criminal or moral offence. For something like the woman in Lethbridge, I think terminating her was an overreaction. I’ve emailed the employer in cranbrook and told them what I thought and that I and any family and friends will make a point of not doing business with them. I’m sure they don’t care, but at least they get the message that political correctness and cowardice potentially have a cost.
