Winterize The Toy hauler.

Ok last year i thought i had everything drained according to the manual. I ran anti-freeze through all the lines by passing the hot water tank like it says in the manual. However this spring when i went to use my trailer i discovered that my hot water tank had a hole the size of a soft ball because it wasnt drained properly. I have a 2006 Jay-co toy hauler, 28ft tow behind. If anyone has a similar model and is knowing how to drain that darn tank so i dont have to replace it again in the spring please feel free to let me know.

Look on the outside of your trailer for a cover with your hot water heater controls (exhaust, DSI board, etc). There should be a large plug inside, unscrew that plug, and the water from inside your heater should drain. Make sure you leave the plug out for the winter, just incase there is a little water left inside, there will be some room for expansion.

Yup, just leave it out, and you should be fine.

on my trailer i remove the plug(anode) in that way you can see the condition of the anode..if it is too small as they are sacrifical..that is the time to replace it.turn the valve off going to the hwt as you dont want antifreeze in there as it taste awful and takes forever to get it out..you should be able to winterize a complete trailer with only 2 jugs of -50 antifreeze..fill every p-trap..dont forget the outside shower and the inside shower.. wipe up any spillage as that stuff will stain..i also cover the a.c so snow dont get in and crack it.and i alway take my batterys in the house..charge them up then put them away

I pull the plug out of the hot water tank, and before pouring any anitfreeze down to the pea traps, I blow all the line out with air, make sure you turn down the psi on the compresser I run it about 40 psi.

I have a 29ft and only use 5L every year to winterize, I also have an outside shower.

Open up all the taps and drain your hot water tank first, then close off the isolator valves and proceed to open up your low point drains leaving the taps open. Close off the low point drains close off the taps and use the 12v pump and prime the system. Then open the taps at each station until the colored rv antifreeze is present, and flush the toilet a couple times.

Its pretty self explanatory and easy, just don't open up the isolator valves for your hot water tank because the antifreeze in the summer don't taste pretty. I also leave one hot water tap open a little to let air get in when I am finished.

I just winterized my trailer (never done it before). It was pretty simple when there is an owners manual to follow. I drained the fresh water tank at the drain tap on the tank, then bypassed the tank) Then I opened up the taps and ran the water pump for a little bit until mostly air was spurting out. (Is this bad for the pump ) I brought a compresser and blew out the lines at 35psi, but nothing really came out, because the pump pushed most of the water out.

That's a good idea to leave the drain plug for the waterheater out. I did this unintentionally . the copper plug broke when i went to take it out (was tightened too much) Now I gotta find a way to get the remaining copper threads out of the drainplug hole.

Man that sucks SWAT. I run antifreeze through everything then drain and blow it out one line at a time. My hot water tank drains on the outside with a plastic plug at the bottom of the tank. I have not had any issues and it's an '05 Dutchman.

Don't forget the city water inlet! Once you have flushed antifreeze through the entire system, shut the pump off, open the hot and cold kitchen taps and gently press on the little button in the city water inlet. (You may have to remove a screen to access the little button.) The city water inlet will flush by gravity feed. Don't forget to relieve the pressure on the system (by opening the taps) or the o-ring will blow off its seat, and the city water inlet will leak!!!

I use dollar store Listoreen as antifreeze,alot cheaper,works great and doesnt leave that taste in your lines

Yes good point - I didn't relieve the pressure when I pressed the plunger ( check valve) and I got a face full of antifreeze when I touched the plunger. I am sure that I have to take it apart to get the o ring to seal in the spring. I just placed a cap on the fitting for now.
