im just throwing this out there to get some opinions on what people think for winch cable is wire rope or is synthetic rope better and what advantages does each have and if its worth it to do a synthetic rope replacment or stick with the wire rope

Snapped the synthetic once on rhino. Stuck bad. Tied back together and kept goin. After that now have slings and snatch block for proper technique. No troubles now.

Synthetic is my hands down choice. Abrasion is the only thing you have to watch for, but if you keep the rope in good shape it is as strong as cable and much safer. Any doubts I had about it were put to rest when my wife's 3000lb synthetic line on her quad winched my rhino up a near-vertical embankment with no trouble. I'm sold.

So far, I've only snapped synthetic ropes due to abuse. I prefer the wire ropes because you don't have to be so careful with them, but we use the winches so much that it would only be a matter of time before one of those wire ropes lets loose and hutrs/kills someone. ...run all synthetic now and no longer have to worry.

If you're in Edmonton, CND rope seems to have the best deal around at $60 for 50' of Amsteel Blue with hook. https://www.snowandmud.com/forum/26/where-get-winch-spooled-synth-rope-46978-3.html#post1111876

Also remember to change your fairlead to a Hawse and replace drum if it has any sharp spots on it that will cut the rope.

I put a flapper wheel on a grinder and buff the rolers up, I just leave them bolted up and let them spin. I did three quads like that and never had a problem with any of them!

I would be worried about the rope getting caught in the corners where the rollers don't overlap enough. Just my though.

You would have to be winching at a extreme angle. Not saying it's impossible, but in three years that I had the rope it never happened.
