I was lookin at the classified section here on snow and mud and i was wondering why there is such a price difference between used sleds in canada and the US. We just picked up a 08 XP with 1500 miles for 5500 down here and my buddy got an 09 with some stuff for 6200. Correct me if im wrong, but i thought the US dollar and the Canadian dollar are almost the same right now. Just curious, thanks.

And what makes it worse, is ski-doo is made here in canada, and it also gets government $ subsidies to continue operating !!!!!!!!!!! Something very wrong with that!!!

I'm not sure if i could afford riding up there with the price of school being what it is. I'll stick to riding the little mountains here in north Idaho lol.

It's true the Canadian dollar is back on top after many years of playing second fiddle to the US dollar. Our economy is stronger and our employment numbers are better. The problem is two fold, firstly it costs more to do business in Canada due to higher taxes and higher payroll. Secondly the manufacturers are leary of changing pricing too fast as they need to see a stable exchange rate for some time before they feel confident about evening up the playing field. Finally us Canadians are so used to be being bent over a barrel, they simply believe we will accept it.

Aside from everything else everyone said...the reason used sleds are so much cheaper in the US then Canada is they were cheaper when they were brand new....

your right, its the "Because Factor", because we live in Alberta and because we are willing to pay top dollar for our fun, we will pay it. its also worth noting that we also have some of the highest grosing incomes in the country. The Cash coming out of Fort Mac doesent help the little guy eather.

Because Skidoo is greedy? lol. A lot of car companies brought their prices down to match US prices (not all of them), so I don't see why offroad vehicle manufacturers haven't yet. I priced out a brand new Summit in Montana and it was only $8000, for $8k here I'd be lucky to get a 3 year old one with 1000km on it.
