I used to try to tell people they should be wearing helmets. Got tired of being told to mind my own fawking business so I don't any more.

I made a car seat suggestion to a young mother with an infant on her lap in the front seat of a car one day and got the same reply. Many people don't give a hoot, many aren't smart enough to know what a helmet or other safety device can do for them and many more are just plain brain dead.

No helmet on my quad for this guy........ just don't see the risk in 4x4ing throught the skag being enough to need a helmet. On a race quad or a dirtbike or a sled it's a definite, but on my big green mud machine not so much. Been riding utility quads for 20+ years without a helmet why start now, never even came close to an incident where I would of needed it

Riding along a straight, flat, smooth back road one day with friends and not wearing a helmets. Buddy came up from behind me doing about twice my speed, ( I was doing about 5Kmh) he lost control of his machine for reasons still unknown. That sent him across the road right into my right rear corner. That pushed me sideways and I rolled and was ejected from my ride onto a pile of boulders at the side of the road. A few cuts and bruises is all I suffered only because I very luckily didn't land on or hit my head.

Chest protector also good idea, apparently a lot of major injuries are crush injuries to the torso. All 3 of us wear them.

I read somewhere that someone was hit in the chest by a big rock that was flipped up into the air by his buddy. He died of heart damage on the trail.

Are there any laws regulating the use and type of helmuts used on ATV's.
This style may be a little more condusive to the "breakneck speeds" attained in 2 or 3 feet of mud.....
Just sayin there are options I'm too am not a fan of the "Hot Full Face style". But this may be a compromize.

Will this stop 600lbs of quad landing on your head from crushing your skull?

I was six months old when my Dad was in an accident that changed his and our family’s lives, as a result of a drunk driver, he became a quadriplegic....
So what does this have to do with choosing to or not towear a helmet......

For the next 46 years of his life he was in and out ofhospitals, so was I ....I grew up around people with debilitating illnesses andpeople that had been in accidents, bleeding, injured and disfigured became suchcommon sights from such an early age, that it just never affected me....

I have met people from every walk of life, gender and nationalityand here it is.....

Do you know how many times I have heard “ I never thoughtit would happen to me”

It sickens me to here that, one would think thank I wouldhave stayed away from higher risk sports but like my Dad told me you are who youare and I have never been happy sitting around, he wasn’t either, and from awheel chair as a Quadriplegic we traveled, we camped, there was no stopping hiswill to accomplish something or get somewhere. I watched him growing up takehours to do a task that I could have done for him in minutes, when you offeredit was thanks but I’ll get .....there simply was no such thing as can’t....

His accident is not a simple story, but he made a decisionto get into that truck as a passenger with a driver that never should have beendriving and it’s a decision he regretted the rest of his life, we can’t goaround second guessing everything we choose to do but we can make informeddecisions....

The minor inconvenience of wearing a helmet vs notwearing one weighed against the possible outcome just makes no sense why you wouldn’twear it. And to here that it’s strictly personal choice, I call bullch!t....just ask the 1000’s offamilies devastated by someone making that “personal choice”....I’ll leave thisone last note.....I was 14 and my dad and I were volunteering going around andtalking with recent paraplegic and quadriplegic’s demonstrating to them thatyou could have a life from a wheel chair, it just takes a new outlook on life, and a will to overcome.....One of the families that we went back to help hadthe cops all around the place the guyhad shot himself and we found out later, that he felt he couldn’t live with theregret of putting his family through living with a person in a wheel chair, sohe took the chicken ch!t way out and but his family through more hell...

We stopped volunteering as it was too much for my Dad tohandle and I found out later on that suicide had crossed his mind a time ortwo....but what snapped him out was his family still needed him.

lead by example and if it’s something we expect our children towear or do then why on earth would I not wear it or do it....

Wear the gear, clean up after yourself and enjoy the backcountry, it’s a gift ....

One thing is for sure nobody can b!tch about not wearin a helmut. It would only make the news as a quadding accident, "alcohol and equiptment were not a factor"
No black eye for the entire quadding population. All is cool and the "special interest" groups can't say chit...

Apparently a little late to the party here....lol I HATE helmets, always have always will!!!! Have the full face cuz I got it on sale at RCPS @ a customer appreciation day. YEp I can say I hate them even more now, sweat like crazy in the summer, either stuck or helping others...bugs fly in there when your going down the trail, damn near drives me freakin batty. But read on, a little history....

Went out with buddies, and always rode double for years. Back in '97 when I bought MY first quad (suzuki 250 4x2) didn't wear a helmet and I'd say 99% of riders we did encounter were the same! Got my '98 AC 454 4x4, still no helmet, rode it over 5000kms in 3 years and can't say I never rolled it or had a few collisions at relatively low speeds or anything. (I went through 3 windshields in 2 winters...yeeesh!) Didn't have any bodily harm done! Not a novice but not an expert that's for sure!

Was without a quad for quite sometime, well I got an old '99 AC 500 4x4 almost 3 years ago now to clear out the parking lot in the winter of the business I owned. Sold the business, kept the quad.

I went on a ride with a group organized by whoDEANie a couple months ago, contemplated not wearing it too. First time I was glad I was protected. One of the worst things that has happened to me on a machine, aside from almost hitting a tree back in 2000. Won't contemplate wearing it anymore, do I still hate it? YES! But I will always wear it!

BUT as most everything in life, we make our own decisions. Wear it or don't, but remember the government likes to step in to "protect" us. The more and more bad publicity that is gained from riders with no helmets the FASTER the gov't is gonna step in with a law saying you MUST! An accident is just that an accident, can't be planned...

yes that we do, not sure we need more regulations, or what the answer is, u'd think common sense would prevail, only i heard once that common sense isn't that common.
