I wouldn’t read too much into that one, if they call again get your employees to forward the call to you and ask for some credentials, it sounds like a scam to me.

Apparently they are sending the info to apply. I guess I will know once it comes. To be continued

so one of my staff members in the office got a call from WHMIS advising us that because we have a fire extinguisher and cleaning supplies (i.e. windex) in the office we now have to be certified yearly at $160 every year. What a load of crap and who thinks of this &hit!!!! I am lost for words on this stupid regulation.

These guys are like telemarketers.

First off. Worksafe or governing bodies do not phone to say you are not in compliance and do not solicite training.

Governing bodies will show up for inspections of work sites and will inform you of any non compliance issues.

Ignore them and tell them you are not interested in their training.

I have been in the safety field for many years and have had these folks call the companies i have consulted for on many occasions.

As stated, if you want to get a onine training go to https://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/chemicals/whmis_ghs/pictograms.html.

The cost is 15 per person.

Keep in mind you only have to train on products in the work place.

I would not be doing any advanced training for the products you dercribed.

If true, it's amazing what the world has come to isn't it? Even if it does surface to be a scam, we've gotten so heavy on the training aspects that a lot of people do not need to either think about their task at hand or have eliminated the need for common sense, almost becoming more of a danger in my mind I get into the argument with some of our safety personnel every now and then - they tell me people are much safer now and the stats back it up. I borderline disagree - I believe people were as safe as now because they had to think about what they had to think through their task and understand it before they did it and actually realize the consequences of it. Now, everything is procedure driven. Little thought required at the actual work site as someone who isn't doing the work is trying to plan it for you. Anyways..rant over....

I was recently at one of our work sites in the Southern US and was involved in a peer study for a incident where a contractor dumped out 1/2 of stale water from a week ago that was sitting in his truck. Nothing more than your basic 500ml bottle you buy from the gas station. On that site, that resulted in a reportable spill with a full on investigation. What have we come to......

Tks very much for the input! Will see if they do send their info and follow up and next time I will be taking the call not my staff. Tired of these scammers trying to get our hard earned money.

it sure is amazing. Just shows you what is out there for methods of getting your money.

As for the water issue, wow! Like you said what have we come to!

Best bet and cheaper would be to just send the office staff and yourself for the course.

Tom, hate to be a rebel here but unless I am forced by gun I am not participating in this once so ever. It is ridiculous to have an office environment to require such certification if it comes to be true and not a scam.
