Strangely enough the snow that hit the rest of the province bypassed Whitecourt and area.....Nothing to see here.............:d Don't believe what other people are telling you.

Is the snow from last weekend still kicking around or has it started to melt ever so quickly like it has in the spruce grove area? Is it worth a 2 hour drive to go riding for the day?

My wife and I were sledding in the Virginia hills Saturday and Sunday. There was 2 1/2 feet of wet heavy snow so lots of stucks. It was great. We planned on sledding north of Blue Ridge on on of the days but there was no snow along hwy 43 at the turn off to Blue Ridge. West of Whitecourt the snow in the median deepened and we were glad we changed our plans. It should still be good for at least till next weekend.

Should be good. The creek crossings are starting to get a bit dodgy though.

Where do you think a person could ride this weekend and still have decent snow?

It's been warm this week and things are getting soft. I would not recommend crossing the Athabasca river anymore as the back-channel at the trail head leaving town was very slushy and wet on Monday night - supposed to hit +9 today too. I think heading into the Carson Creek area on the trail should be decent yet... I'm not sure what the Carson Creek or Eagle River crossing will be like headed towards the Gundy Cabin so you may want to avoid that trail - could be a good amount of overflow by now. The Groat Creek area trails near the Summit Cabin were good last Sunday and there are not too many water crossing out that way so it's probably your best bet. Stage at the Groat Creek staging area on Hwy 32 south - trail to the Summit cabin from there has not been groomed however.

Still some good snow in most directions from Whitecourt. Just a bit lacking right around town.
Good snow on the Whitecourt/Swan Hills trail and lines today. Esp. farther north. Note warning
from Chet on waterways.
