Rode Tom hill section to rolling hills sat and it wasn’t groomed but was plenty of snow

Why is Whitecourt in the N. W. Alberta section?

Not sure who decided but the geographic center of Alberta is just southeast of Swan Hills. I guess that would actually put us in the south west quadrant. If it matters!

Because it's not in the south or the east quater of Alberta .. I guess they cut the entire province in 4 quaters Red Deer behind dead center .

So looking to do a day ride around Whitecourt with my 12 year old this weekend. Would like to do a bit of trail and hopefully find a bit of off trail stuff, wondering if someone can point me in the right dirrection? Should we stage north or south of town?

North side is way better for finding off trail! There are a few power lines and pipe lines that cross the trail system.

South is pretty strictly trail. Thick forest

If you stage at the groat staging area south and bypass most of the thick trees there is more off trail options than the north, if leaving from town you are right

Yep towards Tom hill cabin, tons of old roads, cut lines and power lines out that way

Yes east of Tom hill cabin is all meadows and old big wide cut lines.
Also gets you over to shinning bank slide

Took the kid out for a ride on Saturday. Staged at Groat creek. Rode the groomed trail for a bit and hit an unplowed road and explored a few cut lines from there.
Trail has a few icy areas but in great shape.
If more snow arrives will probably head out again. I

Went for a ride out there yesterday staged at Eagle. Snow was better than I expected trails are in great shape, enough snow to keep my 163 cool. Found some nice snow down a power line, enough for my son to get stuck on flats lol.

no grooming this week but trails are all in pretty good shape!
