Will necessitate changes. Need to pass that way to access the trail system from the hall. There is a plan B in the works.

Went and put up some snow fence tonight. Millar western was nice enough to blade a path on top of their berm for the groomer to run across around the washout. If you are riding from town heading to the boat launch go left as you reach the Millar yard(at the snow fence), and ride along the top of the berm. Same same coming from the river when you come out of the trees(but go right obviously).

Why is the river running so open right there to wash the bank away. Hot water from the mill??

Never froze up, the Athabasca is open from the bridge over hwy 43 almost all the way past town. There is an ice shelf that is forcing the water towards the bank. Washed out an area of about 250-300' along the bank by about 50-75' in towards the mill right through the trail. The fact that the ground never really froze doesn't help matters either.

Riding the triangle this weekend. New to trail. Sledding into whitecourt saturday to stay at quality inn. Is the river open by highway 43. Just curious to know if we will be able to get to hotel by sled. Thanks.

As long as you are coming into town from the trail system, you will be fine. The Athabasca river is flagged/signed where we have been crossing by the boat launch and the ice is fine there for sleds. Continue West on the McLeod River at the boat launch and you will be headed towards the Quality Inn - go under the train bridge and hang a left up the bank to the hotel. There are maps of the trail system on www.whitecourttrailblazers.ca .

I see the Athabasca is open near highway 43. Where is the best way to get to the trails from the Nova Inn?

Cross the river by the boat launch. You have to ride the ditch to the Mcleod, hang a right, ride the Mcleod to the boat launch and cross there. 250 odd sleds did it sunday with no problems

Wondering if somebody has an idea of what the conditions are like up at a Whitecourt now? Thinking about coming up for the weekend (23rd-24th) but heard that the trails are hard packed from some of the warmer weather we have had.

Thank you,
-Mike

They were. The south trails were groomed after the rally and so shouldn't be bad. I would assume the north trails would be groomed this week but haven't been told.

Trail from Whitecourt to Silver Summit/Tom Hill all smooth and fast, good snow everywhere except for a clearcut halfway in between where its getting thin. If you do the trip make sure you take the trail around the east side of Goodwin lake at least one way, the funest groomed trail I have ever been on. The trail on the west side of Goodwin lake is a highway.

Can anyone tell me how the snow conditions are right now? No place to stay in Swan Hills, so we are going to Whitecourt.

Thanks.

Rode on Sunday nd it was the best riding I have one all year there. There was a very large tree own on trail from points 8 to 9. According to Trailblazers website they are trying to lear it. The power grids were hardly touched and had deep snow.
