Finally was able to ride the new sled this weekend. I posted this on FB but figured to check all areas if anyone else has had this issue.

Right after leaving the truck I noticed a higher pitched whine kind of sound (no not the turbo). It was kind of based on speed the sound I think. This was the first ride since picking it up. Normally i clean my clutches and wash the belt but I just didnt have the time this time. Figured I would do it after the first ride. I just cleaned them and yeah I should had done it before. That black soot gets places.

Sled ran great and I have seen videos with the similar sound yet no one has said anything. I thought it was coming from the left side (clutch side) of the machine. Belt all seemed fine, it was sitting properly, the RPM's were perfect at 7900-8000, belt temp was never an issue, I had scratchers down, and snowflap on the trail, but I didnt check chain tension. I assumed it was fine from the deal so maybe thats my issue.

Anyway you can kind of hear the sound I am talking about in this video at the 2.50 ish mark. He actually comments that the sled sounds weird.

Turbo Sound

Anyone have this or know what it is?

My new one does it too. WOT and it'll sort itself out, or the dealer will under warranty.

have the same sled but in 165 and it also makes that sound. it's my first turbo so i assumed the noise was from that but maybe it's BRP's switch to Hy-Vo gears and chain?
he just seized that engine so now he's got other issues.

Yup problem is your riding at 6000 rpm it sounds kinda like fingers on a chalk board just have to ride harder bud
yeah i didnt notice it at full throttle or above 6000 rpm but with my buddies sled on the same trip not doing it I figured it was something I should at least ask about.

is your buddys a 2022? Ive thrown a leg over about 10 2022 models so far and they all do it but didnt in years past

Nope it was a 2021. I watched a ton of videos on the turbos leading up to when I finally put my order in and on that one video in particular for this year the 2022s I instantly noticed it but didnt say anything until I rode mine.

This is the first i have ridden a turbo though.

My buddies is a 2021 and compared to mine there is no sound anything close to the whine mine makes. Not saying its wrong just thought it was strange and no one had mentioned it yet. I was just being paranoids i guess though.

hy-vo gears and chain are new (but maybe they're specific to turbo sleds) as my n/a '20 freeride didn't have them.
Im no mechanic but a quick google search and I mean quick seems to suggest hy-vo gears are a good thing.

The wound doesnt bother me much as long as I know there isnt an issue. Id rather it not be there but I am old and certain high pitched sounds just seem to really bother me know. My last non turbo sled i put a can on it and never again will I do that.

The turbo sound more than makes up for my "whinning" though! haha

yep hyvo's look to be superior to traditional chains and apparently automakers switched to hyvo years ago for timing chains.
i don't mind the sound at all and i still can't tell if it's the turbine whine or if it's coming from the chaincase.
coupla weeks ago someone on here mentioned a couple of freeride turbos were down in bc somewhere. it would be great to be able to get follow up on the reasons why to see if there's something in common.
