Which one and why??

Hi, I know everyone has an opinion on which tire they would choose....
Outlaw or silverback??? Spring will be here adventually and want to get another set of tires for muddin'. Now I have 28" zilla's and want to get around a 30 or31" mud tire. So which one????

Alot of people have the zillas and like them in the mud, but a 30" or 31" silverback is gonna not only tear sh!t up they will ride rougher then laws.

I don't dislike the zilla, very light, good in almost everything. I want to get another set of rims with different sized tires. I"m not ruling out even a 30"zilla. My buddy has 28" outlaws on his mudpro and he does go through mud and skeg better then my zilla's. I'm leaning towards the outlaw, because its lighter. Still not sure what size if I choose outlaws...29.5 or 31"... I also think I'm going to install a 2" lift kit before the tire change..I'm more so curious if someone has witnessed an atv with outlaws or silverbacks go farther and dig better than the other??

I wouldn't chalk it all up to the tires , your buddy's mudpro also has a ton more ground clearance than you . The mud pro is also a purpose built mud machine.
so IMO if you both had identical tires and rims he would still go farther in the mud than you.

Your right tires don't play the whole role. He has 1" more ground clearance than I do, and I know thats alot. I do plan on installing a 2" lift, which should even us out. The other major stopper I have vs him is the crappy factory polaris skid plate loves to catch and scoop mud rather than slide over it. As it stands now I go probably 95% of where he does.

Best thing to do is find out what your bike is better at than his....then ride there lol. Way cheaper than throwin a whole lot of money at your bike just to be able to make up that 5% which probably makes up about 2% of your overall riding time.

Thats a very valid point....My quad is way faster, handles better, and can hill climb better too.

Like I said his is a purpose built mud machine low geared and huge amounts of articulation, not so good for climbing or speed but great in the mud

Well I was leaning towards the outlaw, but just realized they don't have the 14" rims. Well I guess its silverback...

deffinately like my 31" outlaws more then my 30" silverbacks. The silverbacks rode rougher, wore out faster and once the frost on the bottom the holes was gone they dug to china. the outlaws ride smoother, wear better and seem to paddle through the mud more then dig.

The guys I talked to today said that the silverback doesn't ride that bad. Like any agressive tire its bumpy going slow and smooths out faster on. I want to stay 30" or under for clearance reasons. The 30" silverback measures about 29.5" high or so. With the gear reduction I have, staying with a 30" or so, the drivetrain will be spinning the same speed as the 26's were, just with exxcess weight. I do wish the outlaws were made to go on 14" rims....I think they're crazy for not being that way.

the silverbacks are alot more ballooned which give them a bumpy ride. you don't need any more clearance for 31's over 30's. both require you to cut the back side of the footwell.

Only experience Ive had with silverbacks was on a friends ATV they were only 28s but i did not like them at all.

Don't get me wrong they had some good traction. I loved how they would pull out of a clay/slimy holes you know like the climbing out at the end where everyone and their dog gets stuck slipping they were excellent in this area.

But that was also their downfall.

Every inch of what they did was dig and rip which somewhere else that is a good thing but not here in Alberta where the muds thick deep and the skeg is bottomless.

My Bi/Tri claw magnums spanked him in skeg and basically anywhere the mud was mushy and really deep as he would just dig till he was dragging belly pan and having more paddle type traction id just go along right through it.

Now although not exactly a fair fight given the inches advantage I've rode on 29.5 Outlaws as well and those tires are beauty for mud or skeg the machine they were on was a BF750 and it blew the belt turning them but that's pretty common on BF's.

But that damn bike would come out of skeg sometimes where i swore it was sunk just like a snowmobile in powder ..

I mean with enough throttle i can do that as well some times on my bike but he definitely had a advantage in the skeg big time much less rooting on it.

If it was me Id go Outlaw over Gorilla all day long for Alberta riding where finding the bottom means your winching every time.

Just had a look at the bi claw and tri claw. They look pretty good, but way to small. If they made those in a 30" with a 1.5 or 2" high grip they'd do.

well they measure 28 1/2 " and have about a 2" lug with 2.5 inch spikes on the side wall. but fact is you wont find them in Canada.

importing them is a B**CH and cost a lot.

which is why i don't recommend them often if at all.

lol @ you calling them small they are larger than 28" laws by far or 28" gorillas.

and they work better than both in those sizes on and off trail.

if i was to be in the market again tho id just buy 29.5 outlaws and be done with it tho.

the website I saw shows only a 27" max size...Is there more on other sites?? I'll have to check.

Just checked a bunch of sites, 27" is the biggest and only a 12" rim.

they measure out much larger than listed.

some tires measure tall and some measure short in this industry.
