Do you put the 120s on a sled and tow them up to the cabin? Always wanted to do this but figured it'd be time to head out by the time we got to the cabin.

Im curious to hear as well. Planning to spend the holidays in Golden this year and it would be awesome to go for a cruise up to Quartz cabin with my little guy on his 120.

I stayed away from well travelled areas when my little guy was on his Z120. Last thing I wanted was some dough-head doing Mach Chicken to come screaming around a corner and take us out! I would highly suggest a more family oriented ride area with less traffic and ideally access to a meadow or field for them to practice. If you did have a cargo tobaggan to haul it up I guess you could go that route. You don't go far before they are cold and need to warm up anyway so a "ride from your door" option is ideal. Have fun! Blink twice and you'll be picking up their bar tab in Zala's Lounge instead... crazy how fast time goes!

Yeah I know what you mean. He races moto and single track and it’s always on my mind when there is bigger kids out riding at the same time.

Do you have any recommendations in the golden area for kid friendly riding areas?

You got that right Jim. I can’t even believe how fast time flies. So fun to watch your kids progress.

Quartz trail passes under some serious avy terrain. I would re consider locations. I don't have anything to add for golden. Interested to hear where guys bring the little ones

You may want to let him know that new they're only about $200 more than that before fees. Not sure how the demand is for the 200's it may not matter and sell anyway especially if dealers sell out by Jan.

This year the ZR200 was snow check only so supply may be limited. But it was $1000 snowmagedon discounted if checked in the spring. So out the door Price was $4200 new. Not sure what Yamaha’s program is but they were about $5200 new.

I tow them up on a toboggan. Make sure they are covered or else snow fills the hood up. Right up. Lol. I let them ride from the cabin up into cabin valley, with me right with them of course. Usually pack some crazy carpets and stuff to go tobogganing on down towards the end, it’s great fun.

Daughter started out years ago on a kitty cat I rebuilt for her... progressed to a few older sleds over the years, a bravo, safari, and last year spent some time on a 550 touring.... this year shes 12 and got a new Evo, and she's hooked on sledding. Its such a great feeling to watch them grow and progress with something that we love doing so much. I have a 19 year old step son that I have raised since he was 4 and I have provided him with every opportunity to ride and be outdoors, dirt bikes, quads, sleds and he has never been interested in any of them, all he wants to do is hide in his room and play video games, drives me nuts... Thank goodness my daughter is a daddy's girl.

I would recommend Blaeberry just outside of Golden. Good family ride area. Check sledgolden.com for more info.

And yours too Tim! Tanner has always been in a league of his own but I get a kick out of seeing how quickly Troy is coming into his own... catching up VERY fast!

I thought I'd add to this one instead of starting a new thread because it's a similar topic. We have an 8 year old with a zr200 we got him last year and because the weather wasn't great last year he mostly jut rode it around the yard (~3 acres) and a couple times ditch banging to a friend's place/ around the subdivision. I'd like to get him in some more "open" terrain this year. At what age did you start bringing your kids to the mountains? did you just stick close to the cabin with them? Did you equip them with shovels and beacons? How many days in a row?

I found it really depends on the kid in terms of their personality, aptitude, love for sledding etc. Our first son was very into sledding so started coming to the mountains at 7 years old just riding in front of me hanging on to the mountain bar (bring hot pockets as their little hands get cold), then riding his own sled at 9 years old. Our youngest was a little more timid and slower to get into it so was 10 years old before he started riding on his own in the mountains. Ideally start with a day ride and see how it goes or go for a weekend with the second day optional if it doesn't go stellar. Good luck and have fun! Stay very patient as there are GREAT memories to be made!

Picked up this beast for the neice(5) and nephew(3) was trying it out today and it was hauling me around no problem. Hoping it will get the kids out of the house more and enjoy winter more. Worse case will be sticking around for when we have kids.
