Which kids sled, at what age

My boy is 2.5, I was thinking of getting him a kitty cat. Probably too young but.... at what age did your kids start riding which sled.

I don’t believe age is a factor, IMO if you think your little fella has the ability to understand what he is on, and take instructions, Id say give him a chance to try.

I got a 2.5yr old on a 120. He loves it.

My 2.5 year old boy got a Kitty Cat this year. Physically he was very small for one last year, legs were still far from touching. He is pretty tall for his age but I am hoping to get 2 years out of the kitty cat before going to a 120. I haven't had him on a 120 to check sizing yet. If we had a farm or acreage and he was riding a lot I could see moving him up a size sooner but we're in town and he probably won't ride it a ton to get comfortable and bored with the 60cc.

The main thing we found about doing it so young is the gear they make doesn't really fit them, helmets are heavy for little necks, gloves and boots for small kids are junk, so the riding they'll be doing is basically 0* and above. We bought Our daughter a 120 at 2.5YO as well and she rode it until she was 5, now she's on a 200, The 120 is good to introduce them at a really young age since they're so slow and able to tone down to a crawl. Teaches them throttle control and independence. When we first got it she would rather ride around with us on our sleds than the 120 but as she got older she rode it more for sure. The 120s are a really basic sled and aren't a lot of fun for them as they get older unless you start modding them. We opt'ed to just get rid of it for the 200 and absolutely glad we did the 200 is better in every way and I have zero complaints about it.

We got our son a Z120 just when he turned 3 yrs old. BEST sled ever! I put a wheel kit on it in October and restricted the throttle by putting a hose clamp with the screw adjust behind the throttle leaver. As he got better at throttle control I simply moved the hose clamp out towards the end of the handle bar. At first I tied a long rope to the front ski and had him drive around in a big circle with me standing in the middle hanging on to the rope, much like you would training a horse. Then when we went to the mountains I tied the long rope to the rear bumper of my sled and he followed me on the trail. If he got to close to the edge I just accelerated a bit and the rope on his ski straightened him out! Once at a safe meadow he’d get turned loose. That little 120 even hauled my but around while towing three kids on GT Snow Racers.... great fun!
Ty loves that sled so much he still rides it even now in his twenties! He’s since hopped it up and still has fun with it almost like a pit bike.

Got my son a 120 for Xmas when he was 2.5. he was a bit small the first winter but had no problem steering he would use the palm of his hand mostly for throttle but seemed to work fine. Biggest thing is DO NOT put a normal helmet on a kid under 5 as a general rule. Got him a downhill ski helmet and goggles since it is nice and light and that worked great for a coupe years. Every kid grows at a different rate so 5 is just a general rule of thumb bud had several vendor reps talk me out a helmet as it will do more damage to their neck. I found 4 to be the age when they really start to pay attention to what’s actually going on when their riding but again every kid is different. I would skip the kitty cat and go straight to 120 since it can actually drive around a field or on the lake with a bit of snow where as a kitty cat gets stuck just looking at the snow. Either way you will have a blast watching and teaching. Almost more fun to watch my son ride then go out myself....almost

Great post! They are a lot of fun especially with the big boy speed kit. Newer ones have a governor screw under the hood on the throttle cable. They only go 8-9 mph stock anyway.

I started the boy on a kitty cat at 3,a bravo 250 at 5 and he's on a formula 500 at 9.It all depends on the size of the child and how their ability develops.Sooner the better for sure.

I got his at United Cycle, its a childs XS. he's had it on since the spring. was 120$ I think, well worth it for quality and fit. His Wal-mart baby shark helmet lasted a week lol

One more note to add for the little rippers... in addition to a helmet, once they start riding mid to full size machines HIGHLY recommend getting the kids a Teckvest in a kid's size. Given their size relative to the weight of a mid to full size sled the more protection the better! Have fun, ride safe!

Totally agree on the kitty cat, had a couple of them, total waste of money. I have had pretty good luck with the poo 120's, currently have 4 of them for the grandkids. We use hockey helmets on the little ones with full cage up to six years old.

That hose clamp idea works good for awhile. My Dad did that to our bravo 250. Didn’t take us long to figure out that all we needed was a screw driver and when we got out a ways from yard the fun began.

You got that right! We've had so many good memories sledding and still making them now that he's 23. Tough to believe he was ripping on a Nytro back then!

Do you put the 120s on a sled and tow them up to the cabin? Always wanted to do this but figured it'd be time to head out by the time we got to the cabin.
