Hey everyone. So, I'm stuck at work for the turnaround until mid May. I want to get out to the mountains for my birthday. Hell of a way to celebrate, eh? Anyway, just wondering where I should be planning this trip to? Was thinking about Revy, but we are open to going farther south to either Fernie, or maybe State-side. I know this might be early to ask this, because weather can change drastically between now and then, but I want to kind of know what I might be looking at for travel time and riding areas. We are coming from Edmonton area, and know that snow hasn't been as good this year as previous years too. Thanks.

Fernie will be tough to access unless something changes. With a week of warm wether trails will be out out in the popular areas. Im sure there will be ridable snow at elevation its just getting to it. Stupid winter.

Revy, Valemount or Blue River will probably be your best bets for access. Anywhere will still have snow it's just the getting there part.

There are lots of places that can normally be recommended but this year access is probably going to be an issue unless we have a cool wet spring. Revive this thread in a month.

Is that all? There has to be some more ideas out there!

Stewart, Revy, Blue, maybe Vale. Fernie not a chance this year. Unfortunately, the wet, warm weather on the interior has been very hard on the snowpack this winter, every year I ride until June, this year I am worried that if the current weather continues, we might not even be able to ride in May. The lower levels in the Kootenays are green like its May 1, not the start of April. Most years its just access or creek crossings, but this year both access and snowpack will be determining factors.

You can always ride the Pemberton Ice Cap. Heli your sleds in, fuel and camping supplies and your good to go. 100's of square KM to explore. Its actually not that expensive. 3 Sleds, 3 people, 3 trips from heli pad is about $2100. People do it all summer. Infact since you can't get to the ice cap this year with your sleds due to no snow people have been long lining there sleds in all spring.

Really? Guys cannot make it to the pemberton ice cap? Was going to head out that way in the last week of april

Don't go. I just left from there. I Sledded 4 times this season of which I should have only went once. I replaced my skis already once in those 4 times. The valley is green, The flowers are out and there are leaves on the trees. The access roads are dirt, the creek crossings are horrendous and the access is sh#t to get to the snow.

check for ride reports.

my advice: there is always next year!

Like everyone has said access is the problem. I just got back from mcbride and that sun is very warm now when it's out. Destroyed the trail in one day.

if you have a small, light trail and a quad or SxS, you could pull your sleds up the trail and get on the snow. Renshaw would be good for this as the trail isn't steep till up top, but long. There is still tons of snow up there and if you get a blue bird day, you could head way way back.
