What Kind of M/T Tires Is Everyone Using?

Looking for some opinions on some M/T tires. I am lifting my duramax and can't decide on tires. I have had my eye on the goodyear duratrac mostly because it seems to be a decent tire in the winter. But I seem to find a promotion or rebate on every other tire except the duratrac. Also was told it is a pretty soft tire to run on a diesel. I would like a tire that I don't have to pull off for the winter if I can help it. Thoughts and opinions?

Duratracs for sure I have them on my Raptor and they have held up great and worked great all winter

I had them on my dually. They lasted 30000km but I do carry weight all the time

are you going into a 12.5w or staying in the 10's ? Diesel = 10ply, if people saying soft maybe there not? I had 35"x12.5" wide toyo MT's on a 2500hd gasser, NOISY and they get pretty firm in the winter. Went to Pro Comp Extreme MT's after that
(same size) and loved them. They are good all season, get really good wear life from them too. Current truck is a 2500hd deez but i didnt want flares so i didnt go into the 12.5, stayed in the 10s. Running Nitto Terra Grappler A/T's right now and they have been fantastic. I rotate them nearly every oil change but when I change them this fall, thats 3Y all season, sled deck & enclosed trailer to the mtns winter mths for 60%+ of the miles. I estimate I will have put approx 90-95000km on them. My dad runs the goodyear on his 2500hd gasser service truck (hd mechanic, not lifted) and he is quite impressed with them. Has similar or better mileage on them than I do on my nitto's. I just like the more aggressive look of the nitto so im going to stick with them :) Just my 2c

I have always run Toyo's M/T's and the new A/T2's. Best tires going in my opinion. The biggest problem is; most guys that run the M/T's...run them with too much air pressure. This will make them louder and wear much quicker All in all, they are extremely quiet for a mud terrain tire. Right now I have a set of 37" Toyo M/T's on my Dodge...I run them at 37 psi and I will get over 75,000kms out of them if I rotate every 7000 kms. I got nearly 85,000 out of my last set. If you want a tire that is going to be a great all season tire - I would look at the new Toyo AT2. It's aggressive looking, for an A/T, and it performs exceptionally well in the winter.

ive been running nitto trail grapplers seem to be wearing good so far.

Yeah ill be using 12.5 wide. 35x12.5r20 or in the case of the duratracs 325/60r20.

I'm using Good year Wrangler's AT/S. They have been an exceptionaly great tire. A true heavy duty truck tire specificaly design for the heavy diesel trucks. A true 10ply and not what some manufacture may claim but not true.
Traction is very decent and durability, it uses a multi-compound rubber to achieve this. Though it might not look as agressive as some tires out there, it out performs most because of its engineering design.
Very quiet, great traction on ice, snow and mud. Plus will take the abuse of road, off road hazards with zero worries. I've got about 45,000kms and they are about 2/3rd worn, on a super duty 350 diesel thats loaded and towing 70% of the time.
I'll be replacing them with the same tires. BTW they are a way better tire then the Good year DuraTrac, in just about everything.

Got any side by side comparison of the regular at2 and the at2 extreme with relatively the same size. Like a 285/70r17 vs a 285/75r17?

I think the Toyo AT2 changes to the extreme model when you get to the 35 in. size. I currently have the 12.5 x 35 x18 on my 2011 f-350 and like them. Not too loud on the highway either. In the winter I put my narrower Firestone Winterforce studded tires back on. They are amazing!

No, Sorry, I don't...they are the same tread design, but the the Xtreme features a deeper shoulder lug giving it a more durability and performance in offroad terrain. This also makes the sidewall tread look a little more aggressive.

Xtreme sizes start in 285's and 305's (33"ish).

I think I am going to try and get the duratracs. I like the metric size because its slightly bigger than a true 35x12.5r20. I am still a little leery that they may be too soft but I do see lots of diesels running them. We will see I guess. Thanks guys.

I previously had a set on my 350 diesel and they are too soft, they wore quickly, especialy during the summer. My advise is if you go with the Duratracs, get them SIPPED from new. They will last longer as it will help the tires run cooler and improve the traction on ice and snow. They are not a very good snow/ice tire.
People seem to go with looks then usefulness in some cases, the treads look cool but are only good on gravel and mud, far from good on everything else.

haha most people I talk to say the exact opposite. They say how well the duratracs are on snow/ice. I have never had a set or know anyone personally that has them. A friend works at kal tire in calgary and says he can probably get me a set of nitto trail grapplers with some siping. The toyo at2s look like a good all around tire as well. I just dont want to spend over 2 grand on a set of tires and hate them and regret getting them.

Generally siping does not increase wear or longevity of a tire. It softens the tread and gives them increase traction, but I've NEVER heard of siping extending tread life. Uaually the opposite.

Sure they will, cause thats what they have. Don't you, like anyone UP TALK what you own generaly. I'm just giving you sudguestion's thats all. I had both set's on my 350. First the Wrangler Duratrac's and then Wrangler ATs. My current AT's are far better in just about everything. UNLESS you spend most of your time on dirt/muddy road's then the Duratrac is nicer.
Just being honnest, your the guy buying, your choice.

Made some calls today. No one has any stock on the toyo AT2 or know when they will get them. So due to pricing and availability I think I have narrowed it down to either the duratracs or mickey thompson atz. Both are 10 ply tires. Both are load range E. Duratracs are 3750lbs load capability and the mickey thompsons are 3195lbs.

Just talked with Toyo. Tires are still 3-4+ weeks away for your size in the AT2...worth the wait if you don't need them right now!!
