What is the best winter tire for towing?

Gonna be putting some rubber on for the winter and want some input on what to get. Going on a 2500 duramax pulling a 4 place usually loaded right up. I don't care what they look like or what they cost.... I just want to stay on the road. Only 80k on the truck and the steering wheel is worn out from white knuckle driven to and from the hills. Also, these will be dedicated winter tires. Any thoughts would be great.

What ever you get make sure they are studded tires as well. Makes a huge difference.

I expect a dedicated winter tire will be vastly superior to an all-season or all-terrain tire like the duratrax or silent armour or AT2. At least I hope so, I just ordered Blizzaks. Word on the street is Nokian Hakkas are the best, and studded Hakkas is ultimate.

Goodyear Duratracs are good stud them and you will be happy. In my dodge half ton I got Dunlop fierce and that are really good considering they are more of a mud tire.

Durtracs and silent armours are winter rated tires. They have the snowflake sign on them that get you by the chains only or winter tire mountain passes. If they ever Inforce it! Plus I did hear in BC who ever doesn't have winters on and causes an accident it there fault. If its deem that was the issue as in traction. So your covered.

The studded Nokian Hakka's on my last truck were the bomb. Better on sheer ice than the Duratrac I'm running now (obviously).

I didn't feel like dropping 1500 on tires, and still having my crapping stock tires in the summer.

If you want a dedicated winter - go for the studded Nokians.

I went more old school with my work truck a couple of years back, Uniroyal HD/T and I have been very happy, excellent traction on snow or ice. Only complaint is they are noisy but man do they work well.

I have them on a GMC 3500 dually which also has a 9'6 V-plow. A true heavy duty snow tire if there ever was one.

and for what it is worth, the factory studded are the way to go. Way better than the tire shop doo-ing them in the back. My studded Nokians will be going into the second winter and driving through November to the end of March, I didn't lose a stud.

I have Nokian Hakka LT on my half ton and wouldn't suggest anything but. I would get the studded ones

The blizzaks are very good, ran studded duratracs last year on my f350 and they were very good ( 325/60R20 mounted on ford rims for sale) , running factory studded haks on my wife's flex and they are awesome. Just bought some toyo GSi 5 from Chrisco for the Eco diesel for this winter. Lots of good options, don't listen to the guys that will chime in here and say learn to drive, a dedicated winter tire makes a huge difference.

BFG commercial TA's worked great for me. They can be studded also.

The silent armours have been discontinued and replaced with the A/T adventure. Also, studs only benefit you if you're on ice.

canadian tire goodyear wrangler studded have run them for 4 years and never had a problem and the price is about 300 less then fountain tire. the payload on most tires like blizzaks are low as a tire like the wrangler are very high the ride is harder but the tire side wall won't flex i found the the truck had a tendency to roll on the tires and loose traction with 2 sleds on the deck

I was running studded Goodyear Duratracs for my winter setup. Worked pretty well, but not infallible. One thing to be aware of, you will get a lot of stud wear when towing. My route is about 2000km per trip, going to Revy ~7ish times a year and after 3 winters pulling my 4 place, the studs were pretty much done. Lots of tread left on the tires though.

I would recommend Goodyear durtracs or the silent armours. Durtracs are stud able. That will hook you up guaranteed!

Both have the snowflake sign on them.
I ran studded Duratracs for 2 winters on my Duramax. Great tires.
Muteki makes a studable winter tire that looks identical to the Duratrac for about $400 less at Kal Tire. Not sure on how they wear or hold up but they look so identical one could swear they were made in the same factory. I'm going to try a set of them on my Titan. Studded also.

Thanks fellas, looks like the Nokian factory studded are the majority answer. The truck stays hooked up to the trailer all winter ready to go and doesn't move otherwise as I have a half ton for daily driving so I am not too worried about how fast they wear with only about 10,000km a winter put on. Tires are a cheap investment in my mind for a little extra security considering what your complete rig, cargo and lives are worth. Not to mention screwing up a perfectly good trip. I did the old backwards slide with the trailer on the road up to Belle in Mcbride a few years ago and gonna make sure that sheet show doesn't happen again. I was a little younger then, definitely the MTs in January didn't help!!! lol
