What sticks in my mind is the two different times I broke my legs. The right one with the femur going and the left one with the fibula on two different occasions. As Dwight Yoakum would put it, "a thousand miles from nowhere" and no chance of getting emergency help other than the helicopter the next day. I rode them both out and people called me crazy. I should have waited for medical help.

When people watch the videos from the pros, they all forget the back-up that is readily available to them. Helicopters and medical assistance are close at hand. Most people don't think about the reality of getting out of the backcountry with serious injuries. If they did think about that, I don't think we would see the acrobatics that we doo.

All of what has been said above is great and there is a lot of truth in the ideas but................................I don't want to be the one to baby sit the injured waiting overnight for a chopper nor do I want to have to transport someone down a "moguled out" trail. Then again, to each their own.

Wow so many replies! Thanks guys!
to adress a few things, i'm 19 with a 2008 162 m8.
i have been riding seriously for 4 years now, been on a sled since i was 4.
i want to learn how to freestyle a sled, but i do not have a race sled. Gotta train with what i have though, so i went to the local mx track today.
mostly tabletops, so thats nice. Been working my way up on length of jump, and actually made a fair amount of progress today.

kinda sucks when you feel like you're flying, but you suck on camera.

eventually i will get a race sled, but until then training with a heavier sled should help loads for when i finally do get one.

idled up onto the snowmobile freestyle ramp there. Holy F$&@ thats steep!

Save up some coin and go to a clinic by one of the pros. Turcotte just opened a compound if you do some searching you'll find the contact info.

oh yea Dane ferguson was crazy in his day. Now he's a dad and defiantly doesn't ride like that anymore. How about jay Quinlan at the end of that segment, what happened to that guy??

Jay Quinlan got hurt really bad and doesn't ride any more.

Oh I did.

But girls don't listen

I taught my three daughters how to level their sleds when airborn - only one has it down.
Taught them when to bury a sled in a steep area.
Taught them when ever bad **** starts to happen bail, "dad can always get a new sled but I am not going throgh the hassle of raising new kids!"
Taught them how to set up new WOT speed run areas
Taught them noting gets started until all the gear is on
This year they have done their avy training with my renewal.

My girls have been on one form of OHV or anther since they were babies and have their own dirt bikes.

It takes a long time to develop the adequate skills for stunts.
Some never do get it - every one of my girls rides a different style but hey - they all ride!

Odd thing i discovered for myself yesterday.
when anyone is getting ready to jump, they are afraid of wiping out. Its an unknown where bad things can happen.
so i removed the unknown.

i hit a sideways cornice yesterday at a speed higher then what i normaly do with the full intention of bailing after takeoff.

looked awesome on camera, and i know what wiping out on that jump feels like.

it gave me a little more guts to hit it again.
(the snow is soft so me and my machine were unhurt)

it might just be me, but if it works for me it might work for someone else.
