Must be able to get a TEAM clutch or something for the Cat. You get a factory long track and turbo on the Cat. If I wanted that chassis in a 4stroke Id get the Cat personally, less work to make into a decent mountain sled IMO. I don't want that chassis tho...

you talking the t1100 or the 7000(nytro motor)? the 7000 isnt turboed and is only short track.

So what kind of dry wieght is a guy looking at on a Viper with a long track and turbo kit? I realize that its not going to be as light as a 2 stroke. Just wondering how much heavier.
we weighed our Viper with 174x3, Racers edge skid and about 15 ltrs of fuel and it was 617 lbs. Our pro with 174x3 and Racers edge skid, electric start, and about the same amount of fuel was 520. Both sleds have turbo kits. It's about 100 lbs no matter how you do it. A light weight seat and hood will save about 25-30 lbs on a Viper.

hey NM, your thoughts on putting an ez ryde under a viper build with a 190 kit?
I'm sure they would work fine. The EZ ryde does not bolt in the stock mounting holes on a Viper which is inconvenient, but I'm sure they would work fine. We have 25 Racers Edge skids that will be here shortly.

Thanks for the info. If the XM is around 50lbs heavier than a pro, then the viper sounds like it wouldnt be a whole bunch heavier than a boosted XM. Especially if a guy does a little light wieghting.

I was talking the t1100. If you are looking to build your dream sled right off the bat, the Viper may be the way to go. If you just want to buy a sled that you can ride stock and upgrade as funds allow then id get the t1100.

the new cat sleds have started arriving and from what we have seen is the fit and finish has really gotten way better than our 2012s. i think yamaha will force cat to make a better product.
honestly if it were me i would wait out one more year before making this decision (the sled rumours site say the mountain max is returning) so who knows.

Potentially if money is no object but then you have all the issues associated with building the sled etc, parts labour and install issues. One of the biggest issues with the "hybrids" (from an old mod guys perspective), is that the custom parts etc are only viable for a few years before you start down the road of losing the supplier. Most smaller shops offering their kits now, cannot tool up for a run of 10,000 "manifolds" (or whatever) and therefore 5 yrs from now, any parts or repairs you need are custom once the kit supply has run out. Not knocking any of the shops, just ultimately what they are dealing with as production costs rise. With the newer 4 strokes, you can expect that guys are running these sleds for a few more years now than they were in the past. Once its paid for the resale is lower as well, usually well ridden and doesn't owe them anything, and I've noticed a lot of guys keeping them now because of this.

For most guys out there, drop $15K, buy the T1100, put a $400 controller on it and make 260 HP. Put some $$$ into the skid and diet the second year and have a sled with bone stock parts that are easy to replace and should be in production for at least the next 5 yrs.

boat anchor. Have you rode with one. The most powerful stock sled out. F1100 does a 100 mph in a foot of snow. The M1100 is heavier than a 2 stroke but will easily out perform them.

Ya the cat 1100 is not all that bad that's for sure, pulls hard, seems reliable and handles pretty good for a heavy sled ( clutches do run hot though). Spent lots of time riding one last year and most days I still chose my m8 over it but that's due to my choice in terrain. If it come down to the viper with an aftermarket turbo etc. or the cat turbo, the cat would get the nod just due to the money it would save me.
