Since i found out about this Barrhead trail system in this thread couple weeks ago , I'll post a ride report ....thank for the pointer TylerG!
On sunday Feb 14 ,2016 ....got a day pass from my lovely working wife .......so off sledding we go !
Did the run from Barrhead to Swan yesterday ....
The route travel on old and new trail section Via the rustik Skoal lake cabin
Then off to the 5 stars Flathead cabin
My riding partner got spooked so bad we didn't stop till swan hill and out of gas
That was 183 km one way and it was 2:45 pm ,so off we go !
We had to get back to Barrhead and keep the sled at a good pace till the Goodridge cabin for a much needed rest stop
We then decide to take a different route back and used a new section of trail back to Barrhead
By the time we loaded the sled it was 6:40 pm and we had 365 km ....and it feelt like 365 km of bouncing around on marginal snow , OK snow, at time good snow and with couple section of plowed forestry road (what a mess they did on a section of the TransCanada trail !!! ) .....am amazed how the condition changed in just a few km of distance .....overall it was a good epic ride with rideable conditions (keeping in mind that we are in Alberta not in BC )
Here's our tracked route
Here's the map trail of the Barrhead club
I am impress of all the hard work the club volunteer have done in this area ... Thanks Guy !
I recommend to go ride this area to anyone that likes putting up the miles !
The best snow was at swan hill and close to Barrhead in the farm fields that the trail use , also around the Athabasca river crossing had decent snow .
Someone is been grooming a good section of the TransCan trail with a single sled wide skids .....got to admit he did a really good job ( I think it is the Ft Saskatchewan club ....)
P/S : Only used my scratcher for about 20 km on my 154 Doo that has a ported track , but body rode all day with them down on his 163 Poo .
