I agree that the doctors hand those handicap things a little to easy!In our small town it seems like every second vehicle has one!Sad part is the old timers that deserve one usually don't have one or are too proud to get one and people that are younger than me (42 next week) have them and I can't see a disability that requires one!But a high percentage of them are over weight and get the best parking to go in and buy junk food and smokes!Being a small town you end up knowing a lot of the people and a lot of these people have health issues tied to weight.And they don't seem to have trouble reproducing either and their kids are not learning to eat healthy either because they don't see anything wrong with it!But I bite my lip when I see these people because I don't know the whole story and I know what it was like to be picked on!On occasion if I know the person and know their 'story' I will point out that my mother who lives on her own and still drives does not have a handicap hanger on the mirror and she's in her 80's!!I have been called a female genitalia before but then I just say "unlike themselves I'm useful"!!!!

some pretty funny comments on here but I wonder how many of you would feel if "tubby" was your life line should she happen to be your doctor or a paramedic treating you during a car accident or similar. I bet her weight would not be an issue then. Anyway, yes lots of bleeding hearts out there but I think her original message has been ignored. You dont need to be a bomb shell to be a broadcaster.
I get your point and i aggree with not having to be a super model just to be on tv. But what if said life line was not able to perform their duties as well as required to do their job due to their size? How would you feel if the emt or firefighter couldn't fit through the window to rescue you? And could not be fired because of a discrimination lawsuit?

Maybe the smaller one wouldn't be strong enough to rescue you? The lady is quite big I will say that though.
Seen the news on it last night and how the doctor said weight doesn't mean not healthy or not, which is so true. You could have two people, one skinny, one overweight, and the overweight person is in much better shape and better able to do the job, and the overweight person could be much healthier.
Its true everyone has there own healthy weight, but these types of jobs require a certain level of physical fitness and you must be able to pass a test to prove so. I can see more people getting bigger in the years after they are hired than getting weaker. That being said i do not know if annual re-testing is required but it may not be a bad idea.

Depending on the job I think physical appearance shouldn't have anything to do with it but doing the job should be the only requirement!I had a buddy do the firefighter course years ago in the city and there was exceptions on which courses the women had to do!Some of them were modified for the women so they could physically complete them!If your in a life saving position you better be able to do the requirements!We used to have a cop in in town who was smoking hot but about 110 lbs and maybe 5'4 or 5'5!She was entertaining trying to break up bar fights by herself!She would use that pepperspray like a shot gun and cover everyone!So appearance on a news channel isn't as important to me as other occupations!
