Just wondering what weight and type of engine oil for a 2009 550xp or should you just buy the oil change kit from the dealer also what type of aftermarket oil filter people are running. thanks:

I run 10w40 motul synthetic in my 750 King Quad. Usually 10w40 is the standard engine oil for most quads out there but check your owner's manual and see what it calls for. It should be a wet clutch specific oil though, automotive oils don't have the correct additive package for a wet clutch setup. Also I just use a OEM filter. The oil gets changed once a year for mine, thats what the service manual calls for and I've had no problems yet.

The oil change kits from the dealer make it pretty simple. No guess work, warranty approved, and not a lot more $$$. By the time you're done buying an oem filter, then run to the next store to buy oil, it's kind of a wash. Polaris is resonable, BRP isn't.

the polaris xp's use 5w40 oil. does not have to be wet clutch specific because polaris does not have a wet clutch.

For my Rhino I use 0w-40 Amsoil cause it's cheaper then the 20w-50 yamalube and I need the oil to flow when it gets cold. I get my Wix oil filters from Pat's Auto parts for $5 also cheaper than the dealership.
