Just wanted to say THANKS to all the sledders who made the right decision this weekend and played on low angle terrain or stayed home and avoided the hazard. Maybe it's an artifact of poor road conditions and less exposure this weekend, but I hope not.

Hopefully people are starting to learn and make the right decisions when the conditions are poor at best.

My same thoughts Modman. Good job sledders

My condolences to the families of the skiers that didn`t make it home.

Media isn`t putting the blame on them. YET

One of my collegues was with the ski patrol at another ski hill when the call came out for the Fernie avy with 7 involved. Calgary Sun reported "no one was buried". Not sure where the information came from  (edit - guess this info came from a statement made by Andy Cohen - resort general manager), or if they ONLY meant "No one was fully buried" ......I guess the ski patrols story sounds a little different.

Yep....just gotta love the media....its tragic when anyone perishes .... but if your not a sledder it doesn't seem to make the news! Media has a slanted twist but then if the news was all about good things or didn't have a twist to it...no one would watch it! Don't think for one minute that they don't watch the ratings...news is like a soap opera anymore! Condolences to those that are affected by the latest tragedies....sledders, snowboarders or skiers ...it doesn't mater...they were having fun and enjoying nature at its finest and lost their lives...does it matter if they had an engine stuck between their legs or a chunk of wood strapped to their feet? I would think not.....

Hey.,...where's that dude with the helicopter???? Weigle or Wobble or something like that????? don't see him jumpin up and down like pac man now do we? !

I rode at Quartz creek yesterday, snow was STUPID deep. We rode very smart with things we learned for www.hanfirerescue.com :d:d. during our ast1 course. Stayed off the hills and played in the trees and medows,
We saw some guy on a boosted apex try to climb the small hill beside the old cabin and get stuck 60 % up, he burried it pointing strait up the hill and not even turned out, if him and his gang would have looked 200 meters around the corner of where he was stuck, there was a 2 meter deep crown that was like 200 meters wide where the whole slope let go into the trees, would have been ugly.....very lucky sledder.
The drive home SUCKED as we had to go though Fernie and it took 7 hours.

I agree with the comments stated.

1) Good on sledders for riding safe this weekend and hopefully for weeks to come.
2) The news doesn't glorify the accidents because they weren't motorized. Hell, one article I read it was hard to determine it was actually AT the Fernie Ski Resort. Talk about kissing ass. I expect a ski hill to be safe. Shame on Fernie Ski Resort.

was watching the news this morning......heard 2 skiers were killed in an avy.....the reporter said "they were doing a sport that they enjoyed"......then they showed a picture of an avy coming down a hill.... then they showed 4 sledders on sleds.....WTF do we as sledders have to do with 2 skiers that died in an avy? and an hour ago I heard that 2 sledders got lost in crowsnest and the reporter says "they were not properly equipped" WTF are these reporters trying to do besides make sledders look bad.....Im just sick of listening to them.......

the ski hill is really actually very safe i'm kinda dissappointed with fernie myself the ratings for the day was high for avy's there is no way that the curry bowl or any of those bowls should have been open with the conditions the way they were

So true the TV say crap about sledders all the time and the only time news has said a bad thing about skiers was the avalanche death k country that was on the weekend. That can think of
