Well, took the rhino down to our old cattle lease and was taking it easy through a couple ruts and the wheel jerk to the right and SNAP

Busted my steering rack,.. I though for sure the tie rod let go,.. but nope, friggen steering rack busted off.

So I rigged up my winch on the one side to hold the tire from doing the toe in thing, and then a ratchet strap at the same spot going around the back to stop the toe out. Had to drive backwards for about 2km, and all uphill as we were down by the Simonette river, then once we got back to the gravel road I was able to drive straight ahead,.. another 4km back to the truck.

So I guess my season is done until next year, unless I can find a used rack.

Sorry bout your luck, good excuse to put in power steering at the same time you fix the rack though.

When my rack broke I checked with the dealer on a new rack. It was $525. He had a used one for $300. I bought a new HD Rackzilla for $400 plus shipping from the US. I figured if the OE was that shitty I better not put a used rack in it or I would be playing this game again.

New racks are about $200usd new from the states + shipping, you can get a used one for $100. 2004-2009 are all the same, best to get one from a 2008 and up.

Did it come complete with tie rod ends?

I looked at the rack zilla but only found ones that came +6 and +12 for mid and long arm kits. I am going to go rip mine out here shortly, this problem cuts into my funds for the BBK next spring,.. Oh well, you pay to play :)

It came with Hiem joints. I posted a pic on post #18 from the above link. I ordered mine from Hunterworks and it was cheaper than buying from the manufacturer.

Ya I did some searching yesterday and found that Hunterworks is the cheapest at $400 right now.

What did it cost you for shipping, cause I want to get the PS as well,.. but will get that next year?

I don't remember how much shipping was exactly I think it was around 20-25.
It did take a while to get it though. But I guess at this time of year that's not a big deal unless your using the Rhino for snow plowing which is going to happen pretty darn soon.

Well got the rack in today,.. I never took any pictures because I was so pissed off I was ready to call Unisteer and tell them to shove it.

The idiots have a notch cut in the mount plate that is no where close to being right for the front diff brace.

Also the rack arm extensions that go to the Heim joints aren't reverse thread, so you have to remove the Heim joint to do a wheel alignment instead of turning the rod extension,.. morons.
